99 Zx7r Runs Rough At Low Speed

Hey Everyone

I Just Bought My 2nd Zx7r I Bought It From A Friend The Bike Sat For A Couple Of Years Cause The Previous Owner Who Was Also A Friend Died..the Bike Has A Full Hindle Exaust And Was Supposedly Jetted Anyway If The Bike Sits For A Day And I Try To Start It I Put The Choke On And It Will Barely Stay Running Also I Noticed That If I Lean It Right It Idles Higher..once The Bike Is Warm It Idles Higher With The Choke On.and Is Fine When I Shut The Choke Off..when I Am Riding The Bike When I Am Cruising At 30 Or 40 It Sounds Like It Running Out Of Gas It Sputters And Sounds Bad .but If I Gun It The Thing Sounds Great And Flies...back Fires A Little When Off The Throttle But I Think Thats Normal..he Said He Cleaned The Carbs But I Am Not Sure I Put New Fuel Filter And Plugs In And Some Gas Treatment..

If it sat for a few years you should pull the carbs off and clean them. Also drain all the old gas, check the fuel filter and hoses to make sure they are in good shape.

I Did All That But The Carbs He Told Me They Were Already Cleaned I Was Looking For Other Opinions That Might Not Involve Carbs But If I Do Take The Carbs Out I Wanted To Know If They Have To Be Synced Or Any Air Fuel Screws Adjusted

Just because he said they were cleaned doesn't mean they were or how good they were cleaned. If I had a dollar for every time I heard... fresh plugs, oil, full tune up, etc.. I'd be rich. Also if they were cleaned before the bike sat, then they are dirty again. Yes I would suggest synching the carbs after they are cleaned and you might have to adjust the mixture screws also. Just depends on how it runs.

Get a can of Carb Cleaner. Fire it up with the choke on and spray the shit out of the carbs. I usually do mine every spring. It beats all the work of tearing the carbs off.
