Ran out of gas with only 156 miles on. BUT...

Hey 7r owners,

Yesterday I was cruising down the highway and all the sudden she quits on me. I didn't know what the heck happened at first. I only had 156 miles on the tank of gas so I didn't think it was out. Wouldn't fire, UNTIL I switched over to reserve. This really confused me. I got the gas station 2 miles down the road and it took about 3.3 gallons to fill it up which equated to about 47mpg. It's a 4.8 gallon tank. I'm assuming the reserve is the .8 galls. So if I'm getting 47mpg. I shouldn't have run out of gas until around 188 miles (47*4). Any ideas why I would have run out at 156 miles.

Is the reserve tank much bigger than .8? Is it closer to 1.5 or something?

depends on how you ride. I don't think I have ever got more then 150 on a tank. I usually fill up before I get to 140 miles.

Thanks for responding. I generally don't horse around whatsoever. I drive it around like it's powerless Geo Metro. I've never got worse than 46 mpg. Have had a best of 49mpg. Like I said. It only took 3.3g to filler up yesterday. I could see if it took 4+ galls to fill it up. If I got a low of 46mpg * 4.8g, I should be able to get 220 miles to the tank (that includes the reserve).

Guess I don't know how many miles the reserve is good for. Would have to be good for 60miles for my math to all come out right.
