my first 7r(p2), gauges and peg question plz
my 97 came with some ghetto body work...in fact a dollar bill clear coated into the windscreen...among other major repairs needed, i only have an aftermarket speedo. ive looked into digital lcd displays but im unsure if theyre compatable with the wiring. i need the works- whether its factory stock or possibly a new model swap, or if a digi display is reasonable ill go that route.
basically what options do i have (if any) besides buying each individual gauge(autometer, faze...) id like to be cheap but would rather prefer a very legible set that will last.
my next problem is the right side footpeg mounting bracket is broken. ive had some trouble tracking one down. so the question is do the older models work with the p models. from the pictures they look very similar (if not identical) can somone verify that they do or do not interchange-its about a 40-50$difference in a 92 than a 98 i saw somewhere on ebay(yes im a cheap bastard, lol)
if anyone knows where i can find a cheap used headlight assembly as well, id appreciate a push in the right direction
and one last thing, does anyone know of a complete body set for under 500? used, scratched, colors doesnt matter...just want solid pieces and mounting brackets if possible.
other than that, i got the bike running relatively easy (drained old gas and carb tear down and 2 shorted wires) so the 900 bucks i paid for the bike isnt so bad-this thing is a monster...just a really really ugly monster.
thanks in advance- help a newb out please!

You have to post a pic of the windscreen!! As far as the gauges go you should just get a stock replacement set from ebay. If there are none currently then keep an eye open, people are constantly parting these bikes out on e bay. Pics please!!

Whoever owned the bike before you should be SHOT. That pic is a disgrace. If I were you I would definately look on Ebay for a set of plastics and a rearset. You should be able to get both on there just keep looking.

your going to need a set of ram air tubes to. if your just riding on the street it will probably be ok, but if your taking it to the track, your going to run out of fuel on the front straight, with out the tubes, will not equalize carbs correctly and will only make 80/90 hp.
I think I have the rearset bracket, will check tonight when I go home, I have a perfect used headlight, cant help you on the bodywork or gauges. Might have a set of ram air tubes, they are fairly cheap on Ronayers.com, if you have to buy them.

got some tires, painted the rims. fabbed up a foot peg bracket to get me through the week (its killing me not to ride it) i think ive got most of what i need tracked down, but im still paying the bike off so getting everything is gonna take a month or 2. anyways, still progress from having money on the screen and lights in the scoops.
i was wondering if anyone can tell me if different year gauges are compatable? or if anyone has a set of p series gauges?

id be willing to sell the stock guages off my 99. it shows 32k on the odo. but everything works ok. mine is track only so im not too worried bout the guages. maybe ill wire up some idiot lights for myself.i also have a set of rearsets(stock ) minus the shifter arm and brake arm. but the pegs are there and the main rearset body.

what about 96+? maybe even newer 03+(the single style gauge-rpm sweep, and digital speed/coolant display) i know its a costly option but it just looks so sweet.

a company called acewell has digital gauges that will work well with your bike. a buddy of mine has it on his 98 and it works just fine. the rpm guage is bars on the top of the screen that only goes to 11000 rpm but it has a digital readout with rom number at the bottom. look them up, very nice product. about $130 and 3-5 hours to install depending on your skill level.

I have the Veypor on mine. I have not yet been on the road with it but it's nice. It has a gear identifier, 1/4 mile, 0-60, hp and torque rating, g force and some other stuff.
