Unhappy Excessive Fuel Consumption

I recently bought a 2001 zx7 and i find that it is using entirely to much fuel. I am new to the motorcycle game and trying to figure out whats going on with out spending to much money. I came to this conclusion because my buddy has a 2002 zx-6. and when i would need to stop for gas because my tank is completely empty his tank is still practically full and he rides just as hard as I do. Is there anybody who would like to shed some possible light on this.

How many miles are you getting to a full tank?

If Its Using That Much Fuel I Would Say You Have A Leak

I think it has a leak to but i never see or smell anything. As far as milage. I live in maryland an i would say we ride to baltimore which is about 30 miles from where i live doing between 80 - 120mph and by the time i reach baltimore. The tank is practically empty. I'm not sure what to do. I was gonna grab the book this weekend and go through the entire fuel system this weekend.

yeah, you have some sort of issue. I would almost bet on a leak somewhere. you should get about 130 -150 miles on a tank, depending on how you ride.

Ya Even At Those Speeds You Should Have More Left After 30 Miles

Hey guys I haven't pulled of the tank an actually checked out the fuel system for leaks but i did read in the book for the bike that if the carbs aren't in sync this can casue excessive fuel consumption. If this is the case do u know of an easier way to do this. The book made it seem to suggest inadvertly that a real mechanic should do this cause u can really jack up the bike. Besides i don't have the proper tools to measure and fix it according to the book. Thanks for responding.

motion pro makes a gage (thats the one i have) or you can use just a single vaccum gage and adjust the carbs so that they all read the same. its pretty easy there are 4 vaccum lines under each carb and 4 screws at the top left side. hook up the gage to the vaccum lines and then in or out on the screws to make the adjustment. good luck!

Thanks for the responses. Might i add that this sight is freakin great. I took off the gas tank and the air box and was checkin for leaks. i see none with my physical eye. So i'm a try an get my hands on one this weekend. I saw them online for like $109. I saw some on Ebay for about $60 so Ebay sounds better. I'll check some of the local dealers so i don't have to wait on it first an see what their prices are like. I'll keep you guys posted as to whats going on. Thanks alot.

PS. Keep the Rubber side Down
