Have 07 ZX6R, question about oil and filter change

I have an 07 ZX6R, I am getting the service manual for my bike very soon, I figured I could save alil money doing some of the routine stuff myself, for instance my second oil change, I just triped 3000 on the mileage and I'm wanting to do the oil and filter change myself, any tips or anything I should know about before trying this own my own with my manual?

1.warm up bike for about 2-3 minutes
2.kill engine and let bike cool for about 1 minute
3.pull oil plug off and drain
4.remove oil filter (i would put a rag under oil filter so u dont get oil all over the bike)
5.install new filter(screw in untill the filter o-ring touches base than i think its about 3/4 of a turn to 1 full turn more. your manual will tell u)
6.fill up with oil
7.drink beer
8.start bike up and let it idel for a few minutes so oil circulates thru engine
9.drink few more beers
10.your done but dont ride your bike because u might be drunk

its alot easier if u use bike stands because the bike is leveld and sits higher.
also i would use a proper tool for removing the filter, i used channel locks and punctured the filter.:t hefinger

If you follow the 10 steps above, Number 6 should be replace drain plug. Then fill with oil. You should put about 3 qts in, start engine for a short time and allow pressure to build without revving, turn engine off then fill to correct level.

definitely get a filter top wrench, those things can stick. Also fill up the filter slowly so as to get the inside wet before putting it on.

Thanks for the advice guys....one more question, I don't have no other stands right now besides the side stand thats on the bike, I realize that will pos abit of a problem however, I'm going to make sure I've got someone with me to help me hold the bike and all, one more question? I don't have an oil catch basin, where can I get one of those for a bike?

I use an old plastic tub for all my oil. It doesnt have to be anything fancy, for god sakes, you're putting used oil in it.

so what is the easiest way to get the filter off without making a mess, i dont like where they put the filter. Does the 10-40 oil have to be motorcycle oil or can it be just regular motor oil
