1992 Ninja ZX600C Carb Issues

I purchased a 92 Ninja 600R for $100 that had been sitting behind a relatives house for about 12 years under a tarp.

It has 6000 original miles on it and I am starting to restore it.

I made a temporary gas tank and cleaned the carbs. I have it running roughly.

The strange part is that I have to block off the clear fuel overflow lines coming off the carb or the bike does not seem to want to stay running, or rev into the higher RPMs. For some reason it also helps if you blow air into the overflow lines.

So I am assuming something is gunked up or stuck and doing either of those things helps it open.

Are there any experts out there that may know what I am accomplishing by blocking off those hoses or blowing into them?

Just FYI it has new spark plugs, and I have verified with a crayon that all cylinders are firing on the headers.

Thanks in advance

Nice buy for $100.

Not Really familiar with that model, but from what I've been able to figure out, I'm not sure you even have overflow tubes on those carbs. Maybe you could post up some pictures? Here is a link on how to post pics>http://www.zxforums.com/forums/pictu...ures-free.html

Maybe someone who has tinkered with your model will add something.

You are basically changing pressure in the carb and adding fuel which means it is not getting the fuel it needs to stay running. You really really need to completely go through all the carbs and clean clean clean. Remove all jets blow all passages etc. etc. If you do a thorough job it should be fine!

Got the bike running, it was an issue with the smaller idle jet, it was corroded in and we couldn't remove it but we thought it was clean.

Finally the jets broke loose and we were able to really clean them, and they turned out to be the issue.
