Maybe some WD-40 in the key hole.

Tried that and let it sit for days. Still no dice.

Smile Key

Push Down on the forward most part of the Cap as You turn the Key.
Common Issue, not covered under warranty. I would use Graphite not WD40.

I would try a penetrating lubricant and see how that works.

Drill the lock cylinder and replace the cap with a screw-on unit. I am just waiting for mine to screw up to do the same thing. A locking gas cap is the stupidest thing ever put on a motorcycle.

I actually got rid of my locking gas cap this past October.

...but to Hammerhead's point, you may be limited in options and may need to go the route he suggested. Have you tried calling a local Kawi service center and see what they suggest?

As la-Kawi said, the only option may be to get an after market gas cap. Had to replace mine after it seized. If you want to know what yours is doing, then take a look. You have a bloom of Galvanic corrosion.

I ended up having to replace mine with a Roaring Toyz set after trying several times to save the stock one. Once it starts, it can not be saved.

They may get it working, but due to the corrosion, it will fail again.

I was wandering why you guys are having so many problems with corrosion, particularly in the gas cap. In 25 years Iíve never had any problem with that.

The key lock mechanism itself is a soft metal, inside the key cover tab is another metal, such as aluminum, (not sure) The two metals touch when the key cover is closed and causes the galvanic corrosion.

I noticed that white sh*t in the same area on mine before I tried the wd40. However, there wasn't as much as in your picture.

Well! Bump on the head for Kawasaki for not foreseeing that!

I have the same thing from time to time. I tend to let it sit and cool for a minute and all is well. Occasionally it gets stuck for a good 10 minutes of trying and I twist the key. I turn it the other way to bend it back or it won't fit in the ignition (yes I know it's all bad, but I have a temper with inanimate objects when I need to go some place)

You can always try getting an aftermarket gas cap ^^^^ ....it'll make life a lot easier.. I had a little problem with mine the first time I try to open it up but after that it's been fine.
