Advice???

So I'm currently deployed in Iraq for another two months. been stuck here for the last 10) and My buddy bought a 06 gsxr 1000 before we deployed. He's selling his 06' zx6r (black). First off I'm a big dude...6'1 240lbs. Im a new rider..only ridden dirtbikes and a ninja 500 for a while so its my first sportbike. He says its a great bike but im just worried that I'm too big for it? have u ever seen a big dude on a 636? any advice would be greatly appreciated, the bike also has 15,000 miles on it and he layed it over once when he was moving it, but its in immaculate condition, i have seen it. I dont want to jump on a 1000cc cuz people keep telling me ill kill myself??? thanks again...

I have the same bike and I am 6'0 220 - 230 depending on how lazy I have been the previous months. I am very comfortable on the ZX6R. The only issue I have is that my knees get a bit cramped when I ride a lot of highway miles. This could be because I havent been riding in a long time. If I were you I would go sit on some other bikes and compare. I was basically in the same situation as yourself. My first "sport" bike was an Ex500 but I had previously ridden a lot of dirt bikes. I had also taken a big break (10+ years) from riding. For me the 06' Zx6 was the perfect bike to get back into it!

By the way, anyone know how much in millimeters or inches I can increase my preload? I want to take it down to the last thread but I am afraid I might strip something if I go too far.

The 636 should be fine for you. I'm a big dude too and I ride an '05. And if you've only ridden dirtbikes and a 500, the 636 will be more than fast enough for you.

My best friend that I have been riding with the last year is 6'3" and weighs atleast 290. He rides an 09 r6s. We tuned the suspension for his weight the best we could and it works great for him. I think you will be just fine with it. Stay safe over there for the time being you'll be there.

Agree with the others. I'm about your size, maybe a tad lighter. It feels perfect to me.
