Fuel tank taking on water! Heet didn't work.

Somehow water is getting into my fuel tank. I took some fuel from the tank and placed it in a clear bottle and it separated. I've dumped the bad fuel and added HEET then put fresh fuel in the tank but the bike ran like crap until it eventually stopped running and wouldn't start. I checked the fuel with a clear bottle and it still separates. I drained the carbs and removed the tank and used a funnel as the gas tank and poured in fresh gas. The bike starts up and runs like a dream so the problem has to be the tank. I don't know where to go from here.

Did you check the seal around the gas cap. It is a long shot, but may as well. After you got the gas combined with water out, did you wash or ride the bike in the rain? I am jsut wondering if the water is coming from rain, washing it, or condensation?

It's stored in a parking lot but covered. (No other option at the moment). It had been raining for a few days straight. Had no other issues after a rain before. I did check the seal but I just gave it a once over. I have another bike that's stored the same way and there are no issues with that one. They sit along side each other.

If your cover isn't waterproof, then I'm betting water is seeping through and into the gas cap. Even if the seal looks good, it may still be bad.
