Exclamation Warning to those with HID's

So I'm at the dyno shop to get my bike re-tuned after I installed the MJS performance header (great quality BTW) and my bike is running lean and misfiring throughout the powerband. So with no tune and 2 hours later I'm in the garage with the bike apart testing the resistances and voltage outputs of this that and the other thing using the service manual. Come to find out I tested the resistance on the stator and luck behold no readings indicating an open circuit. I'm not sure about how long stators are supposed to last but the only thing that I'm running on the bike that's not stock is the HID's. That along with the starter turning the engine and the various other loads on startup probably damaged the stator over time.

So I have to ask if anyone on here has had similar problems with HID's and the bike's electrical system in general?

I bought the HID kit from Fsane Performance and I'm thinking about completely running without them or I could wire a switch in there and only turn them on when I'm riding the bike. What do you guys think?

Huh. They're supposed to draw less current than the stock light, so that wouldn't make any sense, but I've never really looked into exactly how they work so...

I have had my HIDs on for a few months now and I haven't had any issue with them drawing to much power. It might be that I just haven't had them on long enough. I also got a low wattage kit (35w). What wattage are you running? could have something to do with why you think they killed the stator.

HID's draw a lot of current upon starting. they revert back to less draw when warmed up. Mine blew my stock headlight fuse at first until i did a relay. Your stator probably just took a dump. probably not related to HID's. i am running heated jacket liner and heated grips, satellite radio, radar detector, cellphone charger, HID's. No problems with charging or volts.

kawasaki ecu's are tempermental to voltage. you can prove this by having a low batter charge just enough to crank the starter but the bike won't start because the ecu can't control the engine properly.

Holy shit dude... Your forgetting the heated cup holder too.

I just find it odd that my stator took a dump after only 2 years. Well I found one on ebay so as soon as it gets here I'm going to test the resistance and then pop her in and see what happens. I also found a voltage regulator for only $30 off an 07 with 1100 miles. I'll replace those two components since it's almost impossible to test the resistance on a VR. Hopefully this solves the issue and I can finally get my last dyno tune in.

I'm running the 35W Fsane (made in china) kit BTW. I doubt those kits have any sort of FCC regulations on electrical noise and whatnot. I'm wiring in a switch today so I can just turn them on when I'm at crusing speed to compensate for that initial amperage draw when they turn on.

Parts fail!!!! Check all the grounds and make sure you are not causing the stator to over heat.

Already been that route. The stator is not grounding out. It's got an open hence why there isn't any resistance among the 3 leads.

I decided to throw out the HID kit. I don't want any "made in china" HID crap on my bike. I don't think "quality" is a factor with anything made in china BTW.
