1. Buy a helmet that fits tight w/a
Snell rating. motorcyclesuperstore.com [and other sites have them dirt cheap] Keep it under a $100.00. When your melon smacks the pavement your trick $600 Snell will not protect you any more than a $100.00 Snell. Ignore all the BS about noisy-quiet helmets! Go to a drug store and buy a bottle of rubber ear plugs, we all use them.
2. Wear armored leathers. If you don't have the $$ buy like-new armored leathers dirt cheap on Craigslist.
3. Buy your gloves on line. Under $50.00. Name brand gloves are usually BS. They're all made in China.
4. Save yourself lots of dough. . .your bike is a rocket, its needs no upgrades except frame sliders. The riding upgrade is your skill. Every time you go out, you will see lots of guys/girls w/older bikes blowing off "faster" newer, tricked-out bikes.
Everyone will tell you that speed is in the turns and that's 100% skill. Its never a $1000.00 exhaust set up and some wanker clutch/brake levers.
Ride your ride the way you want to do it. NEVER-EVER think that you are going "too slow", you are never going too slow. If you take lots of time to go slow, you will learn to go fast.
HAZARDS:
1. Always keep your speed down when entering intersections!!!
2. In intersections, on coming cars will
always stop and
always turn in front of you.
3. Cars will
always pull out from the curb in front of you.
4. Don't wave at anyone in the twisties.
5. Ride w/safe fast riders or by yourself and you will be in good hands.
6. Outside of your bedroom, no leather vest, Levis, chaps or BS shorty biker boots.
7. Don't forget to put the kickstand down when you get gas and don't drop it in your garage.
8. Take a lot of 300 mile non-freeway one day rides. You''ll quickly get comfortable and skilled on your bike.
