Dude, they're just looking at you because you're riding endos everywhere. Keep both tires on the road and see how it goes!

Thanks for the welcome and the safety concern. I am for sure taking the safety course in the spring. my boif has taken it and is adamant that i take it as well. He originally suggested a 250 to me, but after talking about it i didn't want to invest into something id want to trade up in a year. He had warned me its a lot of power but that I'll be fine as long as I am conservative with it. I'm nervous, but determined.
hopefully this pic works out better.

Here's a link to a thread about how to post pics. Basically you just set up an account on a free picture hosting website like photobucket and go from there. Good luck and welcome.

It's not that bad, I got an 08 zx6 as my first bike back in April. Just right I would say. As far as riding definitely take the MSF course, and keep an open mind while you do it. I had already ridden dirt bikes before, but I went into the class with the mentality that I basically didn't know shit about riding. A lot of valuable information is given. But welcome, good luck with the bike. Make sure you keep two wheels on the ground.

definitely has to be a girl's name (just like it used to be, and still should be for hurricanes, but i digress); two-word names are best; mine is patti ann; for some reason that annoys my wife (no, her name isn't patti ann).

Hey Saralynn,
Welcome. Good bike choice although i gotta say its a hardcore machine, so please do your due diligence not just as far as a road safety courses go but get some books or DVD's on cornering and braking techniques. The aggressive powerband of the 08 can mean its very easy to enter a corner too quick and find yourself trying to slowdown as you turn and end up in the oncoming lane/hedge/ditch/lorry front radiator.
I'd recomend searching amazon for used books/DVD's. I got a few for about £7 and they have been a really great help for increasing my confidence and technique. Sounds dull but watching the DVD whilst eating your dinner gradually fills your head with good technique that you will want to practice next time your out i.e. trail braking, body position, 2 finger braking and it could possibly help you to be aware of bad habits like target fixation and snatching at the front brake.
You are a pretty girl, for the sake of guy bikers out there please try and stay that way.
Oh and buy a good helmet, don't be like this guy:

Twist of the Wrist 2, by Keith Code. You can probably find it for free download if you do a little hunting online.

Usually what I do is look online for good prices on good gear, then go to a shop and try stuff on to find the right fit, make a note of the size and go home and order online for about 75% of what the shop charges.
You really don't want to buy gear without trying it on first. Leather is not very forgiving if you get the wrong fit... you'll end up with pants that give you rash, a jacket that flaps in the wind and gloves that leave you white knuckled trying to feel the grips... and forget about trying to operate turn signals and other small controls with gloves that are too large.

Book suggestion. Excellent book.
Gloves and helmets should be tried on before you buy. Helmets need to fit quite tight. It's a good idea to wear it for more than a few seconds before buying.
Take a riding course and remember: when a motorcycle stops moving they fall over.
Welcome to the craziness.
