It amazes me how many of my friends have messed up their credit. I'd say at least half of my friends have f'ed up their credit so bad that they don't even know how to fix it. I don't know what they think a credit card is, but when you use it, you have to pay it back. You don't use a credit card when you don't have money, you use it when you do have the money just as a convenience. There are very few reasons why anyone should have a bad credit score. I guess i'm just lucky that I was raised by 2 parents with my Dad having a credit score in the 830's and my mom in the 800's just by default from being on my dads credit cards and accounts. My dad is 54 years old, has gone through 3 houses, at least 10 cars, and a few bikes and has never been late on a payment of any kind once. Pay for your shit, and if you can't, then you can't get it. Simple as that.

End rant

Save up, winter is coming and you can't ride anyways (not here at least), and jump on craigslist and find a good used bike when you can come up with the money. You will kick yourself in the ass if you spend 50% of your purchase price on interest.

A personal loan falls under the same category as auto loans. Banks don't want to give them out these days. Your best bet is to go through a credit union... they've been almost unaffected by the housing industry woes the national banks are going through because they weren't subject to the ridiculous regulation that banks were.

Generation X is all grown up and having kids. They are the first generation of a long line to come that were told they are somebody... everything they do is good as long as they tried... that weren't disciplined by anybody except their parents and sometimes not even by them. This is the result. Adults that refuse to take responsibility for themselves and their family and blame "the system" for their failures.

The rest of us that use credit responsibly will pay for their shortcomings because they'll scream the loudest when they need help, and of course people will coming running to their aid and we'll be expected to pitch in because it's our duty as fellow members of society. Socialist America, here we come.

i got my bike threw a credit union with my work. My credit score was like 680 at the time and i got a 5% locked intrest rate with the credit union. I took out 6800 for my 2007 and it comes right out of my paycheck (great its almost like i do not pay for it) and it only cost me 35 a week for 5 years.
Try a credit union see what they got to offer

Well said Sir. Hey man, Michigan's broke, but I guarantee the checks go out every first and fifteenth like clockwork. And of course the people who actually can hold a job, work a good week, gotta have their hard earned money taken out of their checks instead of it being spent on upgrading OUR BIKES. I don't mind helping a person in need, it's just ridiculous when it's forced.

The simple thumb rule is the more your credit score is, the less your interest rates will be. Credit scores below 620 considered to be poor. However it is industry specific, generally any score between 700-720 should get you a good credit card rate. Anything over 750-770 is considered to be excellent.
