I prefer riding shoes since they are comfortable to walk around in when I get where I'm going. Right now I'm loving the Alpinestars One-O-One's (3 seasons down and their still going strong). I ride everywhere during the summer and need something that looks somewhat decent (non-spaceboot looking) and stays comfortable if I have to wear them all day. These things are so comfortable, I wish I had bought two pair before the price went up.

But really, it all depends on what kind of riding you're gonna be doing. Most tracks won't let you get away with riding shoes and full-blown "boots" are the most protective...they're just not very comfortable for walking around.

you get pinned under your bike, under the back of a truck, and you won't care if they match your purse.. Find a local shop and try some stuff on. Comfort is important but 2nd to something that keeps your ankles braced.

Definitely try on some riding shoes, they're as comfortable as sneakers but not nearly as useless in a wreck. Not as good as full on riding boots, but at least purpose built for riding.

Riding shoes still won't do too much if you go down, if you want protection get boots. Sure they aren't very fashionable but neither is losing your foot or worse.

You apparently haven't read the testing. Especially compared to your average pair of Pumas, which tend to disintegrate on impact if they don't just come flying off. As good as track approved race boots? No, but the gray area between the extremes of best and useless is huge.

Hello from the bottom of the mountains. Welcome and I have to say You make a lovely picture in your profile. Please take it easy on that 6. It gets a little wild up there about 12,000. You better be ready for it. If ever in the Mountains of NC or SC give a call . I ride them all the time. right in my back yard. There are some beautiful places to see like the Blue Ridge Parkway that comes your way.
