Oil change from new

Just picked up my 08 Zx6r and had a oil change done last week at 600 miles. The dealer where I purchased the bike told me 600, 1200, and 2100 miles for the first 3 oil changes. I'm at 1000 miles now and plan on going on a 700-800 mile bike trip next week, should I change it again before I leave or wait til I get back?

I would change it before you leave. And because it's the way I am, I would probably change it when I got back as well.

Make sure your suspension is set according to your weight and how much your carrying on your back. Also make sure you change your oil filter as well. I wouldn't switch to full synthetic until you get back from the trip.

600 for the first service and every 3,000 from there is the oil change schedule for the bike. Just look inside your owners manual, the dealer is full of it.

Not everyone's riding style permits a 3,000 mile change interval. I would not wait 3,000 miles from the initial 600 mile oil change. There are still loads of aluminum shavings floating around in the oil pan even after 600 miles while the engine/tranny continue to break-in.

You can use synthetic oil as early as 1500 miles.

i got mine done at the dealer at 600 miles, then changed to Mobil 1 at 1400. about 2400 on her now and shes doing fine. gonna change it again at 3000 probably, and yes change the filter every time. i use the Bosch 3300 filter, and mobil 1 racing 4t oil.

causing harm from changing to synth early is a myth. if it wasnt, why would many manufacturers run synth in the engines from the beginning?

+! Soc. I changed after the dealer inspection at 600 to Mobile 1 4T Synthetic at 800 using the Mobil 108 filter and just changed at 3500 and every 3500 from now on. The bike must love it. It runs like a bat out of hell. The last drain looked like it came out of the jug instead of the engine. Super clean.
