3rd at 10k RPM....what the hell

I was riding home from work today and hit 3rd gear, needed to pass a car so I hit the throttle and when I hit about 10k rpms it felt like the gear slipped and it just revved as if the clutch was pulled in....any ideas why????

how fast were you going when you downshifted? were you close to 10k after you went down to 3rd, or did you go from like, 6k up to 10k and then it slipped?

Is your clutch cable adjusted right? You should have a little play in the lever when it's all the way out.

Check your clutch cable adjustments at both ends. If the problem persists, then you may have a cooked clutch.

clutch cables seem to be fine and there is play in the clutch handle, can't see what a clutch would burn out at 6000 miles....

It all depends on how you ride it. Burnouts, wheelies, improper adjustment, etc. can cook a clutch pretty quickly.

never thought could be spinning the tire....
It didn't happen for to long, once I noticed it I let off of the throttle and then back on and kept riding....

I tried to see if it would happen again and red-lined it in gears 2-5th and ran smooth so I have no idea...

No wheelies or anything, don't ride the clutch to hard, I do downshift/engine break whenever I am coming to a light I don't just hold in the clutch and kick it down to first when I am sitting at the light but don't think that is a problem.

As noobish as it sounds this happened to me a few times in second on my brothers 650r, only did it when I didn't put it in gear firmly enough.

Yeah, I would go with you havent engaged the gear properly, and then it went in itself. I have done that myself a couple of times, dont think it would be anything sinister.
