pro's & con's of sprocket conversion

Here's the quick story: I wanna do the -1/+2 sprocket conversion. Here's the only thing....my commute to the hospital is 80 miles round trip with 40 miles on the interstate. I really want the extra low end, but i'm wondering what kind of hit my gas mileage is gonna take, and how the higher rpm's is gonna affect my engine in the long run. Any insight from anybody who's done the conversion???

I went -1/+2 and I love it in the canyons and on the track. It's made tight cornors much easier and way better acceleration in the mid range. However I do miss being able to get over 150 MPH. I think my top speed is about 125-130 now.

Miles per gallon is better in the canyons and worse on the freeways when I'm trying to keep up with literbikes. It's not too bad if I keep a little bit higher tire pressure and tuck in on the freeway. It looks a little silly to be tucked going 75, but it actually saves a bit of gas.

Your engine will go through more rotations than before which will make it burn out a little faster. My bike is reving about 10-15% more than it used to on the freeway, so I assume the life of the engine won't be shortened by more than 10-15%. But if you keep the rpms low whenever possible and ride a little slower on the freeway it won't be too bad. If you do a lot of track days or canyon riding, it's totally worth it.

you should still be able to do ~150mph with the -1 +2

I put the -1/+2 conversion on about 2 weeks ago and finally got out the past 3 day weekend for two full days of riding. My gas mileage did not seem to go down too much as I normally fill back up after riding 150 miles and I would put atleast a gallon if not more in. I filled up after 150 miles and it held just under one full gallon. Most of the riding was done on highways and lots of twisties. At cruising speed on the highway my rpms have gone up about 2000 rpms. In my opinion, the gas mileage loss is very much worth the mid range power and all around positive effect the conversion had on my bike.

As for the top end, I had my bike to just under redline in 5th gear and my speedo read 150-155, I shifted in to 6th and pinned it until my speedo read 160. I figured that my speedo is around 25mph off. (I did no mathematics, just a guess). So I was going around 135 with one full gear left. You should have no problem getting to 150 with the conversion, and it will get there quicker than stock.

im runnin -1 +2 and i love it, great for the strip and road, u will acclerate alittle harder and loose alittle off youtr top end but will still be able to acheive 150+mph with no problems, and the cool thing is you still can run the stock chain

i think they are kinda pointless IMO. if your looking to do wheelies, and thats why you are doing the sprocket conversion, ten shame on you!

if i was worried about wheelies i'd just slip the clutch. my biggest concern is beating my buddies R6, which has the conversion.
