Exhaust mod idea
I had this idea of removing the slip on exhaust and just running with a modified mid pipe, bent and cut right after the right side heel guard. Will this cause any damage to the engine in any way? Any thoughts or inputs would be greatly appreciated.

You WILL need to fit a power-commander and have it mapped otherwise you'll seriously risk burning valves out or holing a piston as the mixture will be seriously F'ed up And personally I think the performance gains are also questionable.

You'll just need to get it properly mapped then.
There is a company that makes what they call a MotoGP "style" pipe but IMO it looks like hacked around and badly welded drain pipe and they seem to be happy to mislead customers.

Is it the motowerkz.net exhaust you are talking about?

I won't do the company the favour of mentioning their name.

Anyway, I thought if I modified the mid pipe all it would be is one bend and one cut (slashed). It would probably be $50 or less to have done at a shop. Cheaper than spending $300 for almost the same thing. Just my opinion.

I do like the jardine look and sound. I also like the GP look and sound too. I'm stuck. Don't know what to do. If I do the mod I will definately post it up. Thanx for the inputs.

it would be 60 bucks for the stainless (and thats if you really know the owner)... then 1 1/2 hours labour... depending where u go RJ0516... the labour is what will kill the price here on Oahu... cheapest place would be KAT'S general repairs corner of Nimitz and Kalihi street...

i had done this to my bike about a month ago. you dont need to worry about burning your valves with cutting your midpipe. doin this your bike is goin to extremely loud and annoyin to you an everyone around you.. i had my bike dynoed with no pcmiii or jumper mod and it had 106.
if your goin to do it then you should jus cut your midpipe yourself its not very hard at all and only takes about 15 mins

If you already have a power commander just load a "full system map" and it will get you close enough. You should not burn valves or pistons. That only happens on excessively lean mixtures (like these bikes come with from the factory). Mine was tuned lean as hell stock. I couldn't believe it. but I know it is for emissions.
I have a lot of performance car building experience but am somewhat new to bikes.
The prices of these slip ons and full exhausts are outrageous!
You have what equates to a lightweight fiber packed glass pack muffler that cost 300-400 $$. OUCH!!! I have an '07 stock header and I thought about getting a lower fairing from fleabay and notching it. Coming out of the back of the cat shell with two stainless pipes to create a "moto GP" custom exhaust. Bring it out by my right heel. Notch the fairing a little.
Use a polishing wheel and make it pretty and slash cut it.

I went to Exhaust Systems Hawaii and they told me it would cost about 40 bucks flat to bend and cut the mid pipe if I did all the calculations of how much to bend the pipe and where to make the cut... no big deal. I went home and removed my Jardine pipe to hear what it would sound like with just the mid pipe, and yeah, that bitch was hella loud. So I don't really feel like taking a chance of getting pulled over by the po-po for an excessively loud exhaust. So I'm going to keep my Jardine pipe on and roll with that. I appreciate all the inputs. If anyone decides to do this mod, post up some pics and I wish you good luck.
