In search of...

So, I tried posting this in the Maintenance and Repair thread but I didn't have any luck, so I am hoping the ZX6R love will pull through here. I have a 2000 ZX6R and I was looking to replace the stock exhaust on it. I really like the look of the undertail exhaust, but having a difficult time trying to find an exhaust kit for my year. Is it not possible for my year of bike, or do they not make it any more? Would it take a lot of customizing (welding and such) to make it work? If it is possible, any ideas of where I can find them? I can only seem to go as far back as 03-04. Any suggestions would be really great!

I have an '01 and I looked a lot for an undertail exhaust and could not find one. I would imagine if you know someone who can weld, you could make a custom one pretty easily. I thought about it but just bought a slip on instead.

I am not sure that they ever made an undertail exhaust setup for that model of zx6r. Odds are, and I don't know for sure, that you will have to modify or customize an exhaust for an undertail. Also, I would be worried about clearance issues between the exhaust can and the tire when hitting bumps on the road. I don't remember the tail being all that skyward on that model but I could be wrong. In all reality though, once you have an exhaust can, all you really need to do is fab up a pipe to run from your mid-pipe to the can and then the bracketry to hold it all in place. Good luck if you decide to try it. OH, and there is always the option of going with a setup like the new 650 with a bellypan exhaust. I know there are some drag racing exhausts that mount the same way. That's another option.

That pretty much confirms my suspisions. In fact, I have been finding it hard to find much of anything to customize for my year, which I somewhat expected, but didn't think it would be that bad. Any site suggestions for custom parts other than e-bay? I've been to 58cycle with a few ideas there, and 1 or 2 other sites.
