front chicken strips?

just a question for the real hard-core cornering folks...

I've got no problem with wearing to the edge on the rear tire, I've even been known to get some heat-marbling off the edges on better days, but I can't get near the edges of the front tire? Is it a style of cornering issue, or can it lean that much further?

Depends on tire profile. Some tires have a flater profile and are easy to get all the way over while other tires (race tires especially) have a steeper sidewall making it almost impossible to get all the way over (on the street anyway). I even see club racers with "chicken strips" on the front. Definetly don't want to use that as a gage when determining how far you can lay your bike over.

generally speaking on a triangulated tire, when you get to the edge on the front tire, you may drag a knee( depending on how tall you are). Like mkp said, don't use the strips as a gage. Use your knees and toes. Don't push past your limit. it all comes with experience. Hit the track!

plan on it in the spring...I'm putting some cash away for leathers, boots, etc...

I've done a couple a few years back on a RZ350, but it wasn't always reliable for a whole weekend of track duty. The good thing is that Road Atlanta, Virginia International Raceway, Carolina Motorsports park, Barber Motorsports Park and Roebling Road are all within 4hrs!!!
