where to mount tag???

i bought an rs-5 and an integrated tail light for my 06. now i just need to figure out how to mount the tag up underneath. i have all the capabilities to fab any type of brackets necessary, i just don't want to go drilling into the wrong things.

in the pic below i've highlighted the general area where i would like the tag to be. however i dont know what that part is right there and i dont want to put holes where holes dont need to be. please advise.

My guess would be the battery sits there and/or some type of electrical stuff

right on, would you feel safe shooting a self-tapping screw threw that? do people even screw these things on or is there some type of adhesive that would hold up to the elements.

your battery sits in front of that area. DO NOT drill from the outside. There are to many wires and electronics. Actually, I'm pretty sure the ECU sits right there.take the seat off and move everything out of the way so that you can drill from the inside.

Or, if you wanted to go the "I need to ride right now and only want to spend 15 cents to hang my tag" route, I have heard of guys running zip ties from the corners of the plate to the passenger peg mounts. Ooorrr, if you like the look of a hugger, there is one that comes with a license plate mount on the top of it. Ooorrr, you could reverse engineer the Competition Werkes setup.

My 2 cents...If ya want to mount it flat on that piece, i say fuck it, get some apoxy and stick that shit on... but if you want it to hang straight down, then u have to come up with somthing better...

i just put my plate in the same place the other day. you need to take the seat off and the ecu out. i found it easier to use a hot soldering gun to burn holes through the undertail, it does a much nicer job than a drill. make sure that you put some type of silicone on the bolts that you run through the undertail to mount the plate to avoid getting water on the ecu. you will also need to put two extra washers on the bolts holding the ecu down to make clearance for the bolt heads that are sticking up under the ecu. hope that helps.

njninja, it definitely needs to lean, i think it will hit the tire if it goes straight down. i can't really stick it on flat bc those 2 nuts sticking out.

on the 45 degree part right under that i could stick it there, but it would only allow for adhesive to cover half of the back of the plate.

i was thinking i might could just put 2 little 45 degree L brackets off of the square nuts in the red circles.

you will have to put a pretty good bend in the plate if you mount it that far back. if you put it where you originally wanted it you only need to put a slight bend on the plate to avoid the tire. i have been riding mine for a week now and i havent had any tire contact, it dosent even look like there is a anyway the plate could hit.

i think ur idea with the L brackets is just fine... bend the brackets themselves, and even ziptie the plate to em... i took off my rear hitch lookin thing, and ziptied the plate right to the bracket there... but that's only temporary...

whatever you do dont use zip ties it will look like shit more than likely. just take your time and put something together that will look good. if you spend the time doing it right you will be much happier with the end result.

as for pictures, my digital camera is broken but ill see what i can do.
