First Road Rash (worst luck ever heard of)
As I said in a previous thread, i just bought a 08 6r this week. The first day I had it, my friend forgot to put the kickstand down, and dropped it.
The second day I let another friend sit on it, and he fuckin dropped it on the other side. (both expierienced bike riders)
Third day, I fuckin have 2 beers at the fire works show in redbank, and then start riding my shit around the block, doin about 20-40. I was commin in on final aproach into my friends street, when i accidently down shifted violently while leaning. Rest is history .... thank god for all my protective gear... saved my shoulder, elbow and head.... I was wearin shorts so both my knees got fuct up.
As for my bike, Its at my friends house in his garage right now, both side fairings thrashed, gear shifter bent in, and a slightly cracked front fairing. I guess it couldv been much worse.
Now i got the day tomorrow to drink a lot of beer to numb the pain and order shit online.

sorry to hear that man. unfortunately it comes with the territory.Everyone goes down at some point whether they know the bike or not. It's just a matter of when and how hard. consider yourself lucky...

I guess thats 2 lessons learned for in less than a week! the second one being, don't drink and drive! Especially on a bike!
Here is a temporary fix for your shift lever until your new one comes in...

If I were you, I would just leave the bike thrashed as it is until you get your basics down pact.

Well, i fully assessed the damage today... it's not nearly as bad i thought... I bent the shifter out with a pipe, and took the bike for a ride... runs perfect!! Only damage turned out to be the fairings... i have to replace both lower, and one upper... thats it... when i saw it today i was very happy... i just ordered new fairings... $415... not too bad at all....

Your friends can't be that much experienced when they can't even sit on a bike without dropping it, and also forgetting to put the kickstand down. No experienced biker forgets their kickstand, it's second nature to pop the stand before you get off, for me it's an instant reflex.
Here's another idea, I'm surprised no one else has brought this up to you. How about you don't drink beers before you ride. 2 beers don't make you "accidently" pop the clutch, while also "accidently" downshifting during a speedy lean. No offense to you, but at this point I don't care about what happened to your bike. You play with fire, you get burnt. The only thing I'm worried about is you killing some poor little kid walking down that same street because you chose to drive drunk.
Nothing happened to you "accidently". You chose for your friends to hop on your bike. You chose to drink before you rode that night. You say you were going 20-40 when the incident happened. Well, thats a huge speed gap. 20 and you are going around the speed limit in a residential neighborhood, 40 and your over the speed limit by 15mph. You fucked yourself and your bike up pretty bad for 20 mph, so im gonna assume it's the latter, if not more.
I don't know about anyone else, but you're definitely not getting any sympathy from me. You should be glad you didn't kill yourself or someone else at that. Grow the hell up dude.

I'm sorry for losing it on ya there, but I've seen too many people die, including close friends, by stupid god damn drunk drivers. I mean it just really pisses me off man when I see or hear this kind of shit. We as riders have so much to worry about on the road by stupid car drivers who either don't see us, don't respect us, or just don't give a shit about us. Countless times I experience cars in front of me who purposely slam on their brakes to test me, or cars who purposely cut me off, or cars who hop into my lane as if I'm a fucking ghost. Your reflexes and decision making as a rider need to always be sharp and on point. Add a few drinks in the mix and you can kiss your ass goodbye. Me personally if I was drunk or even buzzed anytime I had any of those incidents on the road, I wouldn't be here typing this message, and my wife would be a widow raising 2 children by herself. I know alot of people think it won't ever happen to them, but it will. And once something like this hits home, you'll realize how serious this issue is.
Next time you wanna party, just don't ride man. It's not that difficult.
Well good luck with your bike and your injuries bro, and hopefully in the future you make better decisions.

Drunk Driving is Bogus! However lets be real, 2 beers is not drunk driving. As long as he's under the legal limit (we're not zero tolerance and I'm sure 2 beers is not over the .08 mark), then he's good to go.
On the other hand, this is perfect illustration of why not to buy a brand new bike for your first bike. I saw my first bike laying on its side atleast 3 times. Luckily I only had 1800 bucks in it. Now 4 bikes later I haven't dropped a bike in years. Everyone thinks they are a good rider (just ask and they will tell you that) but it is a fact that your skills will improve. Looking back you'll agree.

WHAT.... THE.... FUCK???? I see this thread is going to get interesting. I guess the OP PM'ed you his age, height, weight and alcohol tolerance for you to even make that type of assessment. Drinking and driving (weather you think you are ok, buzzed or piss drunk) is never ok, and after what Digital just said is more than enough, even though there are a million other reasons why you should not. I got to admit, a statement like "as long as he's under the legal limit, he's good to go, is the WORST statement I've heard on zxfourms by far, and trust me, I've seen some dumb ass statements. And how and the world would anyone know if they are under .08 unless they are carrying a breathalyzer with time or was pulled over by the cops to take a breathalyzer. 1) if you are carrying a breathalyzer, your obviously a drunk and shouldn't be driving anything, 2) if you were pulled over and given a breathalyzer, you were probably driving dangerously and again, should not have been driving. Man, I hope the youngin's on this board didn't take your comment seriously, giving advice like that could kill someone.
ok.. I'm back to calm now...

I don't know. Are you saying it should be a zero tolerance thing? The other night I rode with a friend. After about 1.5 hours we stopped at a bar, took a leak, had a beer, and rode on.

You should be bouncing your fist off of your friends faces. Holy shit, how does two different guys dump your brand new $9,000.00 bike.
GET YOUR BIG ASS FOOT UNDER THE FUCKING SHIFTER ORRRRRRRRRR POSISTION YOUR FEET BACK ON THE PEGS.
I am pretty sure we will be reading about your really bad accident soon. A lot of little accidents will lead to a big accident. You need to step back and really look at your actions. You have experienced what a slow speed crash can do. (and you were still lucky) Get your mind right before you have a BAD accident.
Just looking out for a fellow biker.

Well for some people 2 beers is more than enough. He blamed his botched lean on his 2 beers, which means those 2 beers were enough to impair his vision and/or judgement. And for all we know it could have easily been alot more than 2 beers. Let's face it, no one is gonna come here and say how they were totally shitfaced drunk and went driving. People always always say they had a couple drinks or a couple beers, when in reality it was alot more than a couple. I didn't mean to flame anyone or start a flame war. I just want the kid to be a little more responsible when he rides or drinks and to know that when you drink and drive, it's not just your life you are putting at risk.

Yo Digi... i completley agree with u bro... what i did was really stupid and i guarantee that shit wont happen again... I'm used to driving my car around after a few beers... been doin it for years, no accidnents... but i realized the other day that the bike is no joke... the slightest miscalculation, and that shit happend... dude.. im still in shock as to what happend... this was my first accident ever... and im 27 years old...
But anyway, believe me... i see this as a wakeup call... obviosly 2 beers were enough to impare my judgement.. I knew not to downshift while leaning.. but riding around the block that night i felt like superman...
I rode the bike home today, thank god it rides fine... even at higher speed theres no vibrations or anything different. I'm pickin up my new fairings on monday, but not puttin them on until my sliders come in... I don't plan to drop it anymore, but just want to have them just in case...
Ill take some pictures in the daytime tomorrow and post em...
