1999 zx-6r Project

I would like to introduce myself, my name is chris. I am new to the bike world and also to this forum. This is my first bike. I bought this 99' zx-6r off craigslist for $1820. I thought i got a pretty good deal on it. Its mechanically sound so the only problems it has is the cosmetics. It has just under 20,000 miles on it. I have had a hard time finding left and right fairings for it. I have been thinking about sanding her down and painting her. I hope i am not in over my head.

2 questions i have

- Where is the best place to look for fairings? i am trying to avoid buying brand new ones. Craigslist is pretty impossible

- What years of fairings matches up with my 99. I thought i read from 98'-02' online but i am probably wrong.

Let me know what you think, positive and negative feedback welcome

My First Bike Was A 99 Zx6r That I Bought 3 Years Ago. I Ended Up Damaging One Of The Fairings And The Best Place I Found To Get Them Is Off Ebay. Only Thing Is Make Sure They Are Correct Before You Buy Them. It Took 2 Trys Before I Got The Correct One.

I have a 99 ZX6R as well, I think this is the breakdown as far as the fairing that fit our bikes.

98-99 ZX6R for the complete set
00-02 ZX6R everything but the upper fairing, because of the headlight, Which i am trying to find someone who can explain how to switch to the new style but no luck yet.

04-08 ZZR600 complete set ( But i think the headlight is an issue again)

I'm bought my bike last year so i'm new to all this stuff but this is the info the Kawi dealer gave me.

I full set from them is about $1800, and they had no clue about the headlight conversion.

Honestly i have had real hard time finding what i need for the budget that i have, which is low.

You may have better luck since you have the Kawi Green which is easier to find, as i have the violet/black and want a whole new set.

Let me know how the project goes, and if you find some directions as to how to get the new style headlight on.

What's involved in converting over to the dual headlight set up? Is there a lot that needs to be rewired? Do you have any pictures of the bike i'd like to see how the hong kong fairings look.

Well... good news and bad news. The cam chain tensioner broke and send metal shards everywhere. My bike is in the shop and its going to take 1300 dollars to fix. But the good news is that I think i might have found some fairings. hopefully i can get them and sand them down and paint them back to the stock look. I'll keep you guys updated with the progress and with photos
