Another newbie

Hey guys,

I picked up an 06 636 with 2700 miles last week and figured I would join the forums since I had a few questions and will no doubt need some advice later on:

1) I'm planning on riding my bike at least 38.6 miles (77.2 total per day) to and from work 5 days a week and was wondering what kind of maintenance schedule and lubricants would be best suited for this kind of riding.

2) Is the Manual for the 2006 available anywhere online? I'm an idiot and can't seem to figure out my tripometer (i'm trying to estimate my MPG) or my clock.

Other than that I just wanted to say this is a great forum you guys have got here, i've been doing a little reading on performance upgrades (my roomate with an 05 R6 went out and bought a bunch of parts because with both of our bikes stock he didn't enjoy losing to me) and found you guys to have the best information.

Whats good real? Welcome, always good to have more people around... Damn dude, 40 miles both ways seem like a hike to me just to get to work lol. Where abouts are you from?

I don't know if anyone here has a link to the service manual for the 06 6r but if anyone can confirm if its the same as the 07, I can send you the link for that.

Nope. Totally different bikes. His is a 636cc and yours (and mine unfortunately) is a 599cc. Body styling is also different. Dude check ebay. If not, I'm positive you can pick one up from an authorized kawi dealer. Or at least they can order you one. Get the shop manual for your bike while your at it. That's what I consider the "real" owner's manual.

I'm from all over, long story short I just graduated college and got a job, but I don't want to move from where I am now (by my school but rent is cheap).

Apparently the bikes aren't the same but thanks anyway.

I am a new beginner to the bike world. I have taken my MSF course and got my license. My problem is the I bought a 600zx 6R bcuz my boyfriend told me that it was a good beginner bike. I am scared to ride it. I have done some research on it and it says that it is too powerful for a beginner. I also have a Ninja 250 which i have been practicing on. I am very comfortable with this bike. How long should I continue with this bike before I can jump to the next bike?

The answer to your question would vary from person to person.
Don't move up until you are comfortable in all aspects with riding your 250. That could be a year or two. You may even want to consider looking at sport-touring bikes in the 500cc - 650cc range for your next bike instead of going to the 6R? You could sell the ZX-6R and buy something else instead. Up to you and your comfort level with riding a SS bike later on. Also; you need to consider what kind of riding you want to do most. That's a big factor too.

Oh, and by the way - maybe consider getting a new BF. His initial advise to you was not very well thought out (imo).

actually, the owners manual is pretty much identical from 05-08. All of the maintanence is the same(throttle,clutch,chain,oil,etc).Engine, suspension, and torque specs will very though.

I have the 05 Manual and PM me and I'll upload it so you can download it if you haven't gotten the 06 one already...but the 05-06 are pretty much identical..

Green Meenie is right.

If it makes you feel any better the 250 gets 70+ MPG whereas the 6R gets a lot less.

Ride the 250 until you are bored with it.


Also thanks for all the offers but I got my hands on a manual already.
