Had a lovely accident about a week ago

So I found that stupid valve cover gasket leak a little while ago. I cleaned it off and tightened the bolts in hopes that it would stop leaking. I took the bike out a couple days later to see if I could get it to leak again so that I could figure out if I needed to replace it or not. I put my suit and boots on along with every piece of protective gear that I had. I went out and dragged a couple knees to get into it. Next thing I know, some lady on a side street is nudging her car out. I saw her and took caution. she decided to bolt out in front of me and stop in the middle of my lane when she saw me. so I locked it up and slid it to go around the front of her car. no problem right? wrong! she realized she stopped in the lane so she moved forward again and stopped leaving her directly in my path.the rear of her car was still in my lane. so I slid the other way so that I wouldn't "T bone" her and destroy my bike, me, and her car. It worked for the most part except that I still clipped her rear bumper with my foot and the rear of my bike. That sent me into a high side. I got up and felt that my foot was messed up. I looked back and she was still sitting in the middle of the road just looking at me. I got everything to the side of the road and took my boot off. Turns out, my peg went straight through my boot(sidi vertigo corsa) into my foot to the bone and fractured it. the swingarm was ripped open, rear sets snapped and plastics messed up. but, I didn't hurt my new pipe I still have that stupid leak too. everybody please be careful and gear up. If I wasn't wearing my gear, I probably wouldn't have a foot right now. I've been noticing more and more stupid drivers every day. for now, I'm keeping it to the track. can't afford the hospital bills anymore, lol

Heres My Story lol,

So yesterday I was out ridin in the 90 degree, 100% humidity weather. I only own 1 jacket, and it is a black leather icon timax 2. Talk about hot! So I decide to buy a shirt (because I only had a wife beater on under the jacket) and dump the jacket for about an hour, the sun was going down and it was going to get cooler. I was going to pick it up after the heat settled down. So I'm driving down the road and hit some moderate traffic, no big deal, I'm not splitting lanes like I usually do (which is illegal in this area). So anyways, I'm crusin', doin about 15 - 20 mph in the left lane, all of a sudden some wrench decides to merge in my lane. This happened so quickly I didn't know what to do, I was going to try to rev the engine so she could here me but there wasn't enough time for that. Usually when people start to merge in the same lane that I am in, they see me before the get all the way over and quickly swerve back, not this time. I had no other option but to brake, I was so close to getting knocked to kingdom come, I braked hard as sh!t using the front brake. Next thing I know I'm sliding on on the side of my face and the back of my shoulder dragging along. WORST experience ever! All I could think about is I want to stop sliding! My skin was ripping off! So after I stop, I get up as quickly as I could and I see the wrench break, but I guess when she saw me get up, I was ok and kept goin... WTF! I went to the hospital where they cleaned my rash and gave me a tetanus shot and took some x-rays. Other than the rash, I'm fine and a little bruised up.

My point, I would have been a lot better if I just sweated my balls off in my jacket, then not having one at all...

sorry, my crack was showing...

Damn! bet that shit hurt. nothin like losing skin on hot cement. glad you're ok more or less. just goes to show guys, it doesn't take much to put a rider down. Especially when it involves a car.

The incident keeps playing in my head, I was sliding on the ground and I remember just wanting to stop sliding. I slid for a good 2-3 seconds, which while it was happening it felt like a few minutes. DAMN! still makes me cringe when I think about it.

had a close call yesterday and was reminded of this thread. Coming to stoplight in the middle of the a right sweep, the light changed and the 2 cars in front of me stopped. I was doing like 50 on the VFR, wet street from recent rain and on the left lane with a shorte space than on the right. The brakes on the VFR are worthless, so I figured that my only chance was to squeeze between the car on the right lane and the one coming to a stop behind it. Somehow I managed not to panic and remembered not to grab the front as they taught us on the MSF, kept upright while unconsciously (and luckily) locked up the rear brake and the VFR broke into a skid that went left to right and right between the car in front and the one coming in behind it. Stopped safely on the far right shoulder, asshole tight shut, heart pumping and a goofy grin on my face. One of those terryfying-but-fun experiences I don't want to repeat for a while( would like to learn how to deliberately do that in the future, tho)

Best of luck

I too wish you both the best of luck. I had a ninja 500 on my back while I was face down due to road debris back in '05 and just got my 6r back in march. Drivers need to pay more attention to motorcycles! I am lucky that in nashville they are really trying to get other drivers awareness up so that we have as few of these accidents as possible. Good luck guys!

this one actually wasn't to bad. last year I wrecked at about 70mph into a rod iron fence. I was in the ICU for 2 weeks and the bike had a bent sub frame about 6" to the left, a hole in the tank, along with some plastics. But here's one that takes the cake for the most messed up bike. I blew a turn a couple years ago on the back roads at about 80mph, rode through a ditch and hit a driveway of all things...the front of the frame literally snapped off... Thanks for all the support guys. It's much appreciated. Just remember to gear up. Everyone eventually goes down. It's just a matter of when and how hard. ride safe...

yeah I was really upset about that one. Mainly because I didn't have insurance on it.learned my lesson on that one. I actually wasn't wearing the proper gear. Crappy helmet, gloves, jacket, military pants and boots. No back protector or suit. I got really lucky on that one. The guy that I passed saw me crash. He said me and the bike did about 3 flips in the air and tumble about 100 ft. He thought I was dead, but I stood up right after. I walked away with whiplash, a scraped knee, and a bruise.
