I need some input on a 2006 or 2007 ZX6R
Ok first I just want to say Hi, I love motorcycles and own 4 of them :).... But I have never owned a ninja before. I used to own a Kawasaki 250 dirtbike but that doesnt count. Anyways im sure this could be a touchy subject for people who own one of the two bikes but I do need help because I have no way of test riding the 636.
Anyways I have a chance of getting a 2006 636 with 2200 miles on it. I know the particular bike hasnt been abused or anything and I got to look at it and start it up but he wont let me drive it because he said someone actually stole a bike from him before test driving, which who knows. But anyway the bike is very clean, garage kept and hasnt seen much use.
The other choice is a leftover 2007 ZX-6r. They did let me ride it, and I thought the ergos where a tad harsh but tolerable compared to the other bikes I own. The power was ok, the gearbox was really nice.
Anyways what I want to know is which is the better bike in terms of handling, Speed, brakes, chasis, reliability... I have heard a few bad rumors on the new ninjas something to do with the engine ticking, but I havent heard anything negative about the 636.,
So shoot it to me, which is the better bike. Price isnt that big of a deal im getting a great deal on both of them with $2000 seperating the two, the 636had a very nice aftermarket undertail exhaust.
thank you

I think they are both great bikes i have a 07zx6r and have ridden the 636 06. I say pick the one you like the most if you do buy a 07 at least you get a warr and you will also be riding a new bike not a new old style bike . But they are both great bikes either way your gonna be happy with the 636 or the zx6r. good luck picking one and put up some pics when you do.

I'd say get the one you like the looks of the best. Yes, they're both ZX6R's but, the tail section along with a few other things are different. I bought my 06 before the 07 came out. But, if I was going to chose now between the two. I'd stick with the 06, I personaly like the lines of it and the little extra in the engine!

I've owned both. They are 2 completely different bikes. The 636 was really comfortable, but seemed a little top heavy. The stock suspension felt like it was built more for the street( soft). It had loads of low end, which was a bad thing for me. The front would lift up every time I came out of a corner. Turn in takes some force. The brakes are great. All around great bike depending on your size and riding style.
The '07 felt more like a race bike. The seating position was a little more radical with a relatively hard, flat seat. It took a little while to get used to. It weighs more than the 636, but the weight is down low so it feels lighter. The suspension is stiffer than hell out of the box and takes a while to break in. I actually had to re-spring the rear on mine because I was to light. Suspension adjustment is an absolute must. The bike flicks side to side super easy even at high speeds. The engine is lacking in low end but makes up for it at the top. My '07 is actually faster than my buddies 636 and he's got a pipe. The over rev is insane on this thing. I shift at 15200rpm when I'm in race mode. The brakes are great. I put some steel braided lines on mine and it lifted the rear at 160mph.
Both are awesome bikes. It really depends on what you plan on using it for.

that's a pretty strong opinion for a squid...tell me, have you ever tried to take a 100mph turn at 160mph. Doesn't work very well. Get your bike running properly and get on the track... then you can make stupid comments like that. And guess what, we ride motorcycles. We're all playing with death...

2006 - better power (low end particularly); tranny problems have been reported; get a shift star installed.
2007- better handling; engine problems have been reported. Make sure you got warranty when you buy.
You decide

I can't believe you went there. You base what I say on how many posts I have posted? A squid I guess my motorcyle knowledge is based on how many posts i have. Your a turd! and no i have not taken a 100mph turn at 160, the hell with that. I like riding but I am not stupid or crazy. I am a street rider, i have no intention of going to the race track. Stupid comment really? As for my bike I got a lemon. You can piss off. doing a stoppie at 160 that is stupid, if you dissagree you are stupid too.

AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I did go there because I don't enjoy being called stupid and I'm sure that comment insulted more people than just me. I'm not basing anything off of how many posts you have or your bike knowledge. The reason I'm calling you a squid is because of the way you speak and voice your opinions. Read what you just wrote. Seeing as how you don't plan on going to the track ever, you probably don't have a suit or boots. Vital protective gear to anyone that knows what they're doing. And nobody ever said anything about doing a stoppie at 160mph. All I said was that the rear lifted. If you've ever watched a race in your life you would have seen that the rear slightely lifts off the ground under heavy breaking. As for your bike, that sucks. But don't come on here acting like a whiney little biotch because it doesn't run right. You talk way to much trash about kawi's to be on a kawi site. If you have a warranty, for f**ks sake use it. If the guys you take it to can't fix it, take it somewhere else. If it can't be fixed, sell it or part it out and get a new bike. Nobody wants to hear your complaining or your attitude. We're hear to help. For all I know you could be a really nice guy and have loads of experience. But don't talk s**t if you don't want to get s**t...

wow strong words!!!! but he's right! i dont own a suit my self but i do have the protective gear like the icon jeans etc, etc, etc. opinions are like assholes, they stink n everyone got one i get what slider is saying, we have come around some people like such (dump it) talking trash but at the end it all about the help you can give to another rider. im a big SBK,AMA and MotoGP fan and im a street rider my self but even my stunt'n boys wanna take their toy to the track!!! its fun to go fast and do sh!t u cant do in the street without getting hemmed up by the cops!! keep it cool and clean and we all can play in the jungle gym aight!! dont be an a$$!!

. There is no warranty, and Kaw mechanics don't know how to fix it besides a new engine. Why would I part it out, it still works. All i know it I bought the bike brand new and now it has all these problems, sorry but that can make a man quit mad, is that not right?. I did all maintenance and such. I spent good money and well it ticks me off. You would be too. as for my comment about the 160 rear wheel thing, sorry I misunderstood.

My 2 cents worth. I've just done 30 000km on my '06 636 without any problems.

It's all good, understandable. you could always get an engine off of ebay and part out the old one. what exactly is it doing anyway?
