what to do?

ok so finally I am going to sell my 636 and gonna get a 14, but here's my dilemma: 08 don't come black!!! WTF??? so maybe I'll go check an 07... then here's another dilemma: after reading about how much the midrange has been improved on the 08, will removing secondary flies, swapping pipes and a pc put an 07 on the same level as an 08? I've had my 636 for 2 years but have been following the 14's developments for a long time, I got the 636 because it was my first bike but I'm going for top dog now, so I need you guy's advice here.

I have an 07 that I have installed a full system, a PCIII w/custom created map, removed the flies, added a BMC race filter, and lowered and I have pulled 185 on the dyno with 93 pump gas thats roughly 10 hp more than the 08 ( have the sheet to back it up). Did everything myself except the custom map and for under $2,000. I'll put it up against an 08 anytime. there is a lot more to get out of this machince if you think you need it, right now I'm pretty sure I don't . Pulling the flies is like putting a new low and midrange engine in the bike huge improvement!

If could get a deal on an 07 the color I wanted I would go for it and add some perks yourself with the money you save and you've got the same thing and you get to say you did it yourself what could be better??? I was in the same situation last year in the spring I wanted a red one but there is no red in 07 so my dealer said he could get me a red one. He's a bud so he brought the new plasma blue one in so I could see it and compare to the red and black, he said it was a lot better looking blue than 06 (IHHO)as soon as I saw that new blue I was sold. If the color hadn't bit me I would have gone 06 red to save a few bucks and done as I said above.

You'll honestly be getting a slightly more powerful and supposedly more refined bike in the 08 but I doubt it if it would be enough to sway me not to save the extra stash on the left over. ( if your dealer is going to reduce it that is?)
The only problem I would have this year is I really like the new silver so I would probably be stuck getting the 08 anyway Hope that helps it's all just a humble opinion

thanks, that was what I thought; I also like to get my hands dirty and work on the bike myself. From what I've read here, pulling the flies is quite easy, right?

Finding a new 07 in Florida, in black? Unlikely. Can you find a used one ? Sure. I have always had black bikes and opted for the '08 blue. Most people think it is black, anyway. I will tell you the 08 (stock) has more bottom grunt than the previous models, but has lost a fair amount up top. I think it is the extra cat in the collector. I dumped the stock pipe and added a PCIII and picked up 14 hp up top and smoothed the power curve out. The engine is quieter than the earlier models.

I just had a guy yesterday tell me bout a dealer not far from me in e. texas that has a black 07 for $10,000. I wish I was at a point I could get a new bike but cant do it right now. Im with jus cruisin tho I LOVE that 08 blue. When I first saw it on the showroom floor I thought it was black till I got about 3ft from it. The 08 black/red looks damn good but Im not a fan of the metallic glittery flames so theyd have to come off.

I thought about the SE with the red/flat black scheme, but then realized that keeping her clean must be a bitch... personally, I'm a fan of gloss black vehicles.

yup the 08 black/red is a pain. there is no clear coat on it anywhere and so the red rubs off onto your rag when you clean it.

Thumbs up 08 vs 06-07

There's an 08, black w/blue met here at impact Kawasaki in Killeen, tx. for sale. I have an 06, flies removed, full micron system, BMC race filter, speedo healer, and rapid bike fuel/IGN control with two custom tunes (maps), I am pulling 196hp and 114ftlbs at the rear wheel (no NOS). With nitrous, 226hp and 164ftlbs. I pulled my power commander and gave it away. The Rapid bike system is the way to go!!!
I would love to see how the 08 will do with the injector and airflow improvements they made to it. I'm sure it will produce more power than the 06-07 with the same mods.

isn't the 08 blue, a real dark midnight blue, pretty much black for all intents and purposes.
Only on bright sunlight, you can see some shade of blue... nice, though.
unless that color is only for Canada and not US

ZX14 it is (08 midnight-blue)...
Now need to get the bike and a list of mods for the bike: HIDs, AngelEyes, full exhaust (thinking Micron), pc3
that'll get me started.

Micron is the way to go!!! According to the shop that tuned my bike, they had the best results with the full micron system. Also, I bought an HID kit (8000k bulbs)from ebay for $72.00 (US). I just ordered the kit with the H11 bulbs and it plugged right in. The same kit fits in the 04-06 GTO.

Killeen is about 2.5 hours south of Dallas. Myself and a couple of friends will be in Henderson, TX. (pretty close to Shreveport) for the races the 21st thru the 24th.

on the Micron system I have the hydro formed full serpintine system with the scorched titanium can love the sound and yeah the dyno liked it too. The system tucks up nicely into the lower fairing even tighter than the stock peice. I am very happy with the Micron have recommended it to several people. Next step is to get the mid pipe and header ceramic coated to make them black and lower heat.
