Can the fan keep running after ignition is off?
Hello Evryone,
Does enyone know if i can make the fan running after i turn key off? my ZX9R 2002 used to leave the fan on even if i turned it off and renmoved the key, my new ZX14 does not do that and it worries me as i know for a fact that once you turn bike off the heat increases a bit before it starts cooling off.
Your answer is much appreciated.
Gracias desde Mexico.

My 92 zx7 does that. The fans stay on when the key is off. It is okay either way. the engine can cool off itself and the fans can cool them off. I wouldnt worry about it. your zx9 was made to run hotter than the zx14 i would guess so the bike needed the extra. sound good?

You know, mine does not, it gets quite hot as once i am off higway i have a few blocks to get home of slow speed, it gets very hot and once i turn bike off, fan goes off as well, mine is a 2006 model, i wonder if model has anything to do with it?
If i put the key in on start mode with out turning engine fan starts inmediately but no key no fan.... What year is your bike?

My '08 ZX-14R turns off the fans if I turn off the ignition and remove the key. It was always hot one line above the normal temperature. Where I live there's an intense traffic and it's normal that such large engines to go hot, going from a red light to another. Maybe they don't turn off if the engine is VERY hot, I don't know and not really sure I wanna find out....

Hey I have the same question. Just picked up a new '08 ZX14 (sad good-bye to the VFR). The owners manual warns about the fan coming on even if the ignition is off...but when I turn the ignition off, the fan goes off too...turn the power on and the fan returns. I'd like it to keep it on because, as you know, it gets hot fast!

on my 01 ZX9 the fan would run till the temp went down, key on or off, the 14 kills the fan when the key goes off, dont know why they changed it

Thanks but that is not what I'm looking for. In that link the fan would turn off when the ignition is off. Anybody have directions to have the fan remain on after the ignition is off until the bike cools?

is there going to be much of a cooling effect if the fan is running while the bike and engine are stationary and not running? the water pump wont be pushing coolant so really the fan would only help cool the radiator and the coolant within, i guess this would cool the bike down, but surely it would only be minimal and not necessary?????

I think that makes alot of sense for the fan to be cooling only the antifreeze in the radiator since the pump wouldnt be running because of the lack of power to it, plus cooling would also be to the exhaust headers and very little to the motor itself

 on that.
I still wish Kawi used a second fan like they did on the Connie. Our highs are 110+. We can really use the increased cooling efficiency of the second fan.

fans on ZX-14
on the 2008 ZX-14 the fans will only turn on when your at 0 miles, stopped at a light, when you take off the bike suppose to stay cool with the ram air, I've been in traffic jams on I-4 near orlando florida and thought the bike was going to burn up but the fans kick on and the temperture will not go all the way up. these bikes like the zx-12 run hot. But you have to make sure your fluids are always topped off.

I went right to the source yesterday, since I had the same question concerning my new ride. The Tech, who's been working on Kaw for about 20 years now, indicated that the bike will seem to run a bit hot, especially in stop and go traffic. It's OK...just keep the fluids correct. As far as the fan is concerned, there is power to the fan at all times. However, it will cycle off and on at a set emperature with the key on. It will ONLY run with the key off if the bike is super hot when it is put away. Acts kinda like a safeguard, to ensure that the temp gets dow to a safe level after being run, but will not cool the bike completely down after shutdown.
