Aftermarket Exhaust - staintune versus area p : Kawasaki ZX Forums: Kawasaki Ninja Forum

Hey All. I am looking to change out the exhaust on my 07 silver zx14. I am considering staintune as I have used them before and like their product very much. Someone on another site suggested looking at area p exhaust. I checked out their website and they have a nice looking product line. Does anyone have any experience with area p exhaust - particularly on the zx14 and if so what are your thoughts? I see on their website that area p makes both a stainless and a carbon fibre application for the zx14. I would normally choose a stainless steel application but the carbon fibre might look good on the atomic silver zx14. The only thing I don't like about area p is the mounting bracket in the middle of the pipe. The staintune mounts clean - exactly like the stock pipes. Any opinions? What are your thoughts?

Well, I'm using the Micron serpent system (Full) along with the Rapid bike Fuel/Ign controller, flies out, BMC race filter, and dyno tune. My bike was putting down 192hp and 118ftlb at the rear wheel. The guy that tuned it said that he never got that much power out of a 14 with a Brocks, or any other system.

I have the 18" long 2" core Area P's on my '14 and I am very happy with them. Fit was good, they are nicely tucked in. About a 13 lb weight saving. Nice sound, not too loud, a deep throaty sound. Vast reduction in heat with the cats gone. You can lay your hand on the pipe after a good ride and they are warm but not egg sizzling hot like the stock ones.
I like the fact that Area P does not rivet a big stupid name plate on their mufflers as well.

sweet. i love the no big aftermarket logo... gets less attention from cops if you get pulled over.
Btw, when you get a slip-on, don't you still keep the cats ?
how to get rid of the cats w/ simply slip-on ? I thought I had to go w/ a full exhaust for that.

If you have a slip-on set up, how did you get rid of your cats???

Since you have a '07, Cats are only in the mufflers themselves, so removal of the stock mufflers deletes the Cats. Same deal on the '06 model.

On the '08 model their is an additonal Cat in the collector area which requires drilling/punching out for removal.

Also, slip on's for the 06/07 models will not fit ,08's as the mid pipe is slightly different in diameter.

Some of us like the 'balanced' look of 2 mufflers. The bike is already stupid fast as it is. If you are racing a full system is the way to go, for a street driven bike not a big deal.

on the micron I suprised myself on that one I too am a stickler for eveness on my stuff and debated forever on the single system but it really looks good on the 14 with the chain side open the bike doesn't look unbalanced at all and I'm the guy that put a second mirror on all my old cars just so they would look even.

I also believe the bike looks better with two pipes for a more balanced look. It doesn't have to be stock but it should look "close to stock".

I love the look of the area P's. Nice and clean - close to stock - and no logo's is also a plus to me. They look great on your bike. Do they sit on the bike the same as the stock cans? I have a set of givi v35 panniers and whatever I put on has to sit pretty much in the same position as the stock pipes. I also like the 18 inch length. I think that is a bit shorter than the stock pipe isn't it?

I am not 100% sure that the Area-P's duplicate the stock pipes upward sweep. If I were you I would contact Area P directly to find out. I believe they would be very close.
At 18", the Area-P's are shorter than stock by 2 to 3" if I recall correctly.
