Very cool. Thank you. How much of a difference does it make to remove those secondaries? Obviously there's gonna be some warranty concerns. I'm very tempted to take a shot at this.

I think this will be my winter project. Along with a power commander and a new set of staintune pipes. I am looking forward to unleashing all of the power the zx14 has at it's disposal. Great pic's and how to by the way.

BlueBomber14: Did you remap or put a power commander on in conjunction with the removal of the flies?

Thank you very much for your very thoughful post. You made the procedure look very simple.

Powercomander's website is listing maps for butterflies out. I've already got my PC3 in, so this is sounding very tempting.

I'm a little worried that the bike will be tough to ride after the mod, but maybe I'm a puss. I don't want to spin the tire on wet pavement and drop it.

Sorry been away a while. To answer some of your questions ...It takes longer to disassemble the bike than it does to to take out the flies (can,t stress enough to not turn the screws to hard till you feel them give way if you need to heat the driver some more and try again.
The whole job only takes a few hours I'm pretty anal my friends say so if you not so it might take less time.

To "B_K" The performance gain at low end is substantial it pulls the way I had imagined it would from the dealer (I was actually a little depressed at the lack of low end till now) My kawi mech friend thinks they corked up the 06 & 07 to make it easier to gain hp on the 08 model with minor mods) And my dealer is a personal friend but he said the flies out shouldn't be a warranty issue at any dealer as well as the PCIII in fact they will install one for you if you want.

To "Twisted" ,"drsmig" and "B_K" The mods will certianly make the low end torque hard to manage in the water I try not to ride in the rain but ??? I actually also installed this past weekend the PCIIIusb and a full hydroformed Micron exhaust remapped again had to use a map for Full Hindle BDE system with stock and butterflies removed. The guys at Dynojet seem to be confident that this map will be very close to what I need till they update for Micron.
They also have a stock map for butterflies out that is a better tune than the stock settings from the factory in fact the tech guy says the stock map from dynojet is quite a bit better than the factory they say the factory map is only about 75% efficient as compared to there stock map that is 90-95% efficient (according to them..Grainof salt with that)

I won't actually be able to ride with the new exhaust and map till tonight I am all antsie in the pantsies!!!! The new Micron system weighs less than one of the stock cans by itself.

To Redneckhillby, OH!.....io! is the chant around my town Go BUCKS!!!LOL

I don't know for sure if they even have the secondary butterflies I think the 14 and the concours are the only ones that have them I might be wrong on that but if they do it would probably work in the same manner.

Why don't you have a look at the length of your intake funnel just above your injector. If you see two connectors or sensors on top each other, then probably you have 2 flies.

On the 6, you have power valves located in your mid pipe controlled via cable. What's the purpose of installing both together since their function are the same? Not sure about the 10 though...

Thanks man just got the Micron system with the scorched titanium can done this weekend Neither Micron nor Dynojet have a map for it. So off to the dyno I go to spend another chunk of change! The custom map made a difference of 8hp on the dyno pulled 181 rear wheel hp on a known conservative dyno the tuner says it should pull about 185 to 190hp on most any other dyno?? but the paper is what I have to back it so 181hp is the number for now. That relates to 200 or so crank hp! not bad for pipe PCII and flies out no other mods.
A great investment in your bike and well worth the two hours to get it tuned exactly right (no guessing if your map is close or not)

If your in or live near Dayton Ohio go see the boys (Steve and Brian) at Quantum motorsports of Dayton Ohio highly recommend them mention that Jerry sent you they'll treat you.. (extra) right. Brian did a great job "thanks Brian". I'll get a pic out this week really looks sweet.

Think I blew my wad dude!! Thinkin about the Stainless(blue) brake lines with the chrome ends that should help the stop'n and look good to boot. Other than that I think I'm going to just enjoy her for a while!

I do have a k&n filter paid for sitting at the dealer but I'm hearing alot of talk that the after markets don't really flow much better than the stock on the higher end bikes seems there putting some good filters on the faster bikes?? What have you heard?
I guess I have to see if it flows better, my new custom map is shot to hell already if it does and if it flows the same I guess it's reusable so I will eventually break even on filter cost (that's a plus) I've seen a lot of maps that spec for both after market and factory filters in the same map??

Just a quick question. If the intake has two flys, and if removing one set increases power, then why would Kawasaki put the second set on?

Does the second set make it more fuel effiecient? Does it make it smoother? Why would they be there if removing them makes the engine "better"?

The secondary flies theory as told by a kawi mech friend of mine is to make the bike more controlable and smoother at lower rpms and in his opinion to give them an easy hp mod on the next model year he has been a kawi mech for some time and thinks that they do that on a lot of the new model releases as well as other as he calls thems "corks in the system" to pull out with out having to reengineer the bike to gain the hp to improve the next years model. It doesn't so much make it better from a mechanical veiwpiont as much as it just makes it perform better as does adding a better carb to a v8 engine that had a slightly smaller carb from the factory to gain emmissions and mileage numbers. You slap the right size carb on and boom instant performance.
