Remove the secondary throttle butterflies, add a Power Commander with a good map and some sort of exhaust-either a full system or some slip-ons. If you really want it to run out from under you in the first three gears, plug in a Timing Retard Eliminator, which will also necessitate the addition of a new digital gear indicator, if you want to see what gear you're in. The TRE fools the ECU into thinking the transmission's always in 6th gear to eliminate the factory-programmed timing retard in the first three gears, so your LCD readout will always say "6" when it's in gear.

I have a 2010 Raider, and the vin build is late 2009, so yours could very well be a 2008 ZX 14. Make them fix the valve cover leak. I don't what year, but Kawi made some fixes for that. You might want the latest fixes - check Kawi with the vin number and find out. It might have been a recall too. I wouldn't worry about getting more power just yet - your problem will be keeping your license! LOL My 08 is a lovely machine - extremely well built and designed. Oh - how were the front brakes at high speed?

I only went to 70 MPH when I test drove it. They seemed fine. Why? I will look into if there are recalls for that.

No recalls, but there have been some warped rotors. The trick is not to hold the front brakes on at a stoplight, especially after they've been heated up. Holding them concentrates the heat in one spot where it can't dissipate normally.

Good to know. Well, insurance is bloody costly for that bike. I would have to do a loan. Full coverage with $1k comp and collision is $1600 a year. Ouch. And liability with $1k como is $1200 a year. I have not clue yet what the loan amount will be. Have not got a call back from the bank. Hmmm head scratch right?

Yep, definitely an '08. September would have been the first month for production for 2008 models.

Price sounds reasonable...I paid the same for my '08 two months ago, 6k miles and completely stock except for MRA windscreen and Concours seat.

Also, I pay $342/year for full coverage with State Farm.

guess i win the insurance lottery $346 per year oh and my scooter with the same limits or full coverage is $90/yr. I am looking at my Geico declarations page. When I first bought the bike my Farmers agent quoted ~$1200/yr, thats why I went looking around

I know what your thinkg, but thats what I pay ...and why I suggested it. hope I never have to try and use the coverage. I live in the LA LA land of lawyers suing everyone so I have lots of insurance with high coverage limits on boats, sports cars ($300/yr full coverage Haggerty on my 84 911) and a nice home in PV

Guess being dirt old with good credit and clean DMV helps a lot

Shop around for insurance - In my experience there can be tremendous differences. I saved 1800$ a year switching to TD Bank insurance from Allstate, and got better service and coverages.

Well, Geico will not write me a policy. I got clocked 116 in a 70 on my 9r a week after having it. Lost my license for 11 months and was lucky to have a school and work permit. That is killing me right now. Tomorrow I will see what kind of loan I can get for the zx14. If its to much then I am not meant to have it. Best way to look at it. Sad is I love riding on this cooler weather.

Insurance companies are predatory towards each other's customers- when a driver (or rider) has no claims history and no tickets, they will give them an artificially low rate to steal one another's business. As soon as there's a ticket or a claim, that rate will begin to climb, sometimes skyrocketing.

True. I am on sr22 but it goes off in December. Never had a ticket since 2005 and then bam! No soup for you. Leaving here in about 2 hours or less to see what loan price is. I will pay the $1600 a year. I know it will be less after its paid off. Taxes will do that for me. Also if I part out my 9r. Cross the fingers.

Its not official yet till Wednesday. But I bought the zx14. They are going to fix the oil leak and lower bike 1/2 and or take some preload out of the shocks. Soon the questions will fly. Like anyone have a manual I can get a copy of to print? Will post pictures of her at her new home. I highly thank you all for your help.

Good for you. I don't usually hear anything being given away in CA but you sure did good. I just thought of something and CA has mandatory helmet laws and AZ doesn't. Still seems quite a bit difference in rates.
I have Allied insurance and pay $650 a year for full coverage.
The ZX6R is only $185 for the same coverage.
And the Honda cruiser with 1300cc is $225.
Amazes me that the 14 has about the same cc's but almost 3 times the premium.

Good luck! Rather than soften the suspension (it's way soft stock already) you might conside sliding the fork tubes up in
the clamps about 1 1/2" and getting some adjustable lowering links for the rear shock
