Second fan or Muzzy fan

Guys The other day I was riding and it was 93 out and she started getting hot big time....Is it worth adding the second fan or the Muzzy fan?? I've done all my winter projects and not really looking for another at this time but if it''s a BIG help I might do it. What do you guys think? How much work is the seccond fan installation? That's the way I'd be leaning I think....

Did it boil over or spill excess coolant out the overflow? If not, it didn't get very hot.

the bad part about the 14's is not having a real temp indicator. that bar graph may be very misleading. in super heavy traffic mine would hit all but the last bar. but the fan kicked in a bar or so before that and would maintain. as soon as i moved it dropped like a rock back to normal.

If it does not give the over temp alarm on the display i wouldn't worry about it.

93 in CT?
Did "high temp" (248*) start flashing?
I've ridden in city traffic in 115* heat without any problems.

I concur with what "they said"! I have owned two 14's...an '07 and my current '09 model. The temp "bar" guage does lend one to "think"...my bike is over heating. BUT, the fan will keep things in check until you get moving again. I have never gone over four bars even in the heat of summer in the south. Best advice is to avoid stop and go city traffic when it is hot outside. If this type of riding is unavoidable, just go with the flow and don't get too excited unless the "high temp" msg is flashing.

Yeah you guy are right about the bar graph. Numbers would be nice for sure. We had a real hot day last week. It was a record setter for sure in April!!! But as normal now it's back to 40 n 50's!!! So I guess I'll stay with the stock fan n just ride naked!!! LOL

Thumbs up

o shit here we go. you guys that have been around for a while know what i am talking about. (many of these threads normally end up in arguments) hey buddy these bikes do get pretty warm under your ass.... (fyi be careful of the "overheating" term). nah i am just having fun, i live where there is a ton of traffic and i absolutely hated 90 plus degree days with 18 miles to ride and taking 45 mins to get there. most of the bars would stay lit all the way home. so i did add the second muzzy fan and swapped out coolant for engine ice also. it did improve. i had my temps flash at me twice while dragging first gear 5rpms longer than i should have in a 25 mph zone. kinda hard to ride 2nd at the speed so i drug first all the way for like a mile. in any event i was miserable while sitting. the mod does in fact allow the fans to come on and go off while idling, which is a big deal for me because my stock fan would never cut off once on unless i was moving. temps seem to drop quicker with the ice also once moving, but i have not flashed or seen top bar since. unless when turning bike off while hot (that is normal) the mod isn't hard at all. take off your fairings, take a couple of hoses loose (after draining rad. of course) take a couple of bolts out that hold ur rad. and wire and install. thats in a nut shell. if you want me to i can pm u the exacts.

I don't know how many times I've said this already but a second fan is not needed. Just go with the Muzzy fan blade and you will be fine. And if the fan kicks on while sitting still it will bring the temps right down and cut off without having to be moving. Best $38 you will ever spend. Trust me.

I changed to the Muzzy as a personal preference. I did not need to, but I wanted the fan to be able to bring the temperature down quicker. Mission accomplished.

I posted a how to on this link:

Water Wetter or Engine Ice do the trick, too.

Talking Worked for Me !!

it worked thanks to all you ZX14 owners with the same problem .

Engine Ice worked for me and thank god they sell that sh*t here in Montreal.

Now just waiting for my Muzzy fan and secondary fan ordered online from Schnitz Motorsports Inc the closest place to me . new project .

City driving with all the stop n go not passed 2 bar yet , Highway driving stays 1 bar.

For all you Canadian ZX14 owners Engine Ice can be bought locally at any CDNTire store .

Thanks to again to Everyone for posting "Real Solutions to Real Problems" .

What problem?
You mean that the temp goes "up" like any normal bike and everyone wants to try and make it go "down"?

Been riding all summer here in Texas and haven't seen it go over 4 bars.
No extra fans and the same radiator fluid that came from the factory...Motors usually get warm when used.

I worried about it when I first got the bike but not anymore. My favorite cooling mod is: ride fastererer

If it really is a concern for some, just pull out the thermostat. And then they can deal with the sludge problem later.
