another noise - not one of the usuals

Hi,

so i have all the normal zx-14 noises - tipover sensor, cam chain tensioner (pretty much 90% better with a switch to full synthetic at 8000km)

but i also have a weird wah-wah-wah type noise that goes with wheel rotation from only about 42-48 kph (26-30mph). seems to be coming from the front but kinda hard to tell.

from cars, i'd say wheel bearing or tire noise, but i have next to nil experience with bike mechanics.

front tire is about 40-50% remaining, 10,000km on her now.

Hey there, welcome to the board. Nice to see another BC ZX14, where are you at?

As for the noise, it may be from the front tire. If you are running the stock Bridgestone tires, it may be the wear pattern (due to balance, pressure, or suspension set up).

Does the bike pull to one side or the other? What is the tire wear pattern like anyways?

I know that at 10K I decided to change over to Pirelli Diablo Rossos, and that made one hell of a difference. Check the tire pressure often, and get your suspension set up correctly for you.

One thing I forgot, is that once I had it all checked out, with new tires, proper balancing, and tire pressure, I never noticed any noise after that. Much easier to relax and listen to the Scorpions in your noise blocking ear buds on the iPod when you know the bike is in good working order.

Also much easier on the mind when entering the corners at speed knowing you did everything you could to make things safer.

Let us know what you find, and again welcome to the board.

Some tires are just louder than others. MY new BTO 16's are louder on rough pavement than the Continental ContiSports I had before but the BTO 16's are much better tires and they inspire confidence.. Much better grip, much better braking feedback and they seem to absorb small irregularities better..(but they are louder)
I had the original BTO 14's on the bike when I first bought it and they were hard crappy tires But the new BTO16's are the best tires I think you can purchase for the money...
