$1300 more for 2010! WTF?!?!
So, what do you get for that extra $1300? Not a damn thing other than new colors (which actually rock compared to the last couple of years) that I can see.
Anybody have an opinion on how many of these bikes will sell at the new price in this economy? I'm guessing not a helluva lot - not in the US anyway. IMHO Kawi's completely lost it.

Well, that makes sense. Guess they can keep their Yen & I'll keep my dollars.

Yep.....
When our leader prints billions of dollars to "stimulate" the economy the end result is total and complete devaluation of the American dollar. History shows what happens when you do this.....but some people aren't wise enough to look at the past and learn from it......

By history are you referring to June 2004?
Quote:
the Federal Reserve has confirmed our Stock Market Crash forecast by raising the Money Supply (M-3) by crisis proportions, up another 46.8 billion this past week. What awful calamity do they see? Something is up. This is unprecedented, unheard-of pre-catastrophe M-3 expansion. M-3 is up an amount that we've never seen before without a crisis - $155 billion over the past 4 weeks, a $2.0 trillion annualized pace, a 22.2 percent annualized rate of growth!!! There must be a crisis of historic proportions coming, and the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States is making sure that there is enough liquidity in place to protect our nation's fragile financial system. The amazing thing is, the Fed's actions mean they know what is about to happen. They are aware of a terrible, horrific imminent event. What could it be?
P.S. I am no economist, however I know enough about finance to know that something is going on here. There has to be some defined reason why the Fed is dramatically inflating the money supply by over 20%.
|
Or are you referring to this from March 2006?
Quote:
We believe the Federal Reserve is about to create a whole bunch of new money. Why? Because, starting March 23 the Fed will stop publishing a statistic called M3. M3 is the best guide to how much new currency the Fed is creating. The only reason to stop publishing M3 is because . . .
The Fed is planning to do a whole lot of "legal counterfeiting," and wants to hide it. This is a direct threat to your budget and savings.

We are definitely paying now for the last 8 years.

If you want it, buy it. They aren't going to discount something when it first comes out. They offer incentives on the leftovers to move them. If they offered incentives on a brand new model year, they would never get rid of leftovers. You can wait till the 2011's come out and then buy your 2010 for $1300 less but you'll miss an entire year of enjoyment.

The dealer I'm working with isn't even planning to order any 10's unless somebody wants one and lays down a $1000 deposit and I don't blame him at all. In the past year he's sold only one 14 and it was one of the '09 black and orange ones and that's all. He offered me the one he's been sitting on for 8 months at his cost. Can't get past that hideous color though.
I've got two other bikes that are paid for, so I guess I'll make them do. Plus, I have a chance to buy into a partnership in an Acrobatic biplane for less than that bike would cost and I'll own 50%. Guaranteed buy-back for what I have in it or 50% of the final selling price if it's sold to somebody else in the future. I'm gonna just do that instead.

The same '08 is on my local dealer floor that was there way back in March when I first started looking at 14's. It's been $9999 forever. I stopped in there last week and it's now $10,200. WTF?!!

Good post RidgeRacer. Nice to see some intelligent discussion on why we are in the mess we are in now. FYI, good article in Rolling Stone recently about Goldman Sachs's influence in all of this financial stuff. I think the whole article is still available on their website. Thanks for your post.

Just another reason to never buy a new bike. There are too many deals to be had on the used market. I picked up an '08 ZX14 last Friday with 1400 miles on it. Bone stock except for an undertail. I won't say exactly what I paid for it except the first digit was a 6.
It also had the Good Times extended warranty until May of 2014.
The closest I came to a new bike was my '08 Bandit. It had 4 miles on it. The dealer I bought it from had gotten the bike at auction from a dealer that went under. The only flaw was a dent in the tank and scratch on the tail piece. The dealer got Suzuki to replace both of them free.

I've bought 4 new bikes and ever since my first purchase, I've always found used bikes to be overpriced. They just don't depreciate as much as they should, considering that their life span isn't that long.
There's also the peace of mind factor of buying a new bike, especially when so many guys fix their own bikes and/or so many shops don't know what they're doing either.
With the proper timing/patience, I can always find a new bike (probably a year/two old) for the price of a used bike that's even older.
Regarding extended warranties, always get the factory one, not the cheaper alternative ones. This I've learned the hard way

Regarding the 2009/2010 pricing, the year made/bought/sold is a part of the 'image', and why the price is different. Also, there's dealer discounts/rebates for older bikes (not always mentioned to the customer). More importantly, it has sat on a dealers lot, and that's not good for something mechanical.

Various ST bikes see well over 100k..........like the FJR for example. It all boils down to maintenace.

Why not say it?
I got my '08 in June with 1460 miles with warranty for 7 grand even.

I was only gone for a couple days and jpooch00 changed his mind?
I don't blame you, if you're not happy with the price, it will bother you everytime you ride it. There will always be deals out there.
One other thing, I bought a leftover 07 and saved enough money to buy lots of accessories but it was already a year old and still worth less than the 08s. Sometimes the money savings contradicts what the actual value of the bike is.
