New 14 owner with a question

Hello Everyone,

Just thought I would introduce myself. I just bought a 06 zx14 in blue - got a heck of a deal $5500 bucks with 4300 miles a power commander and muzzy full exhaust. Gotta love ebay.

Anyway, I am kind of an old man (or at least Ive been riding an old man bike for a couple years) and wanted to recapture my youth with this bike and I gotta say - this thing is amazing! Absolutely the most fun ive had on 2 wheels.

One question - I didnt get an owners manual with it and was wondering what "mile over" means. It is on the Range setting of the digital display. It says how many miles til empty and then says "mile over".

Gotta say you guys have an awesome forum here and there appears to be a lot of good info. Heres a pic of my new (to me) bike:

Hi and gratulation with your new ride.

Mile over means that your range with the current fuel level and usage is more than the number of miles displayed.

Welcome to the board, great looking 14!

Should be able to really enjoy that bike in WA, great rides down there. When you are bored of that, come up to the island and I will show you around.

Welcome! I love blue.
Be careful with her. So fast and smooth you don't realize how fast you're really going. Did that make any sense?

I have a question about the gas gauge also....I read the owners manual about it , but I still don't understand when your out of fuel? I kind of hate not having a reserve switch like every other bike I have owned. When the gauge says empty....how much fuel is left in the tank? I guess someday I'll have to run it all the way down to figure this out.....

Welcome! That's a hell of a deal! I don't think I could have passed that up myself, and I'm not even looking for a 14.

I think it's a pretty generous reserve, gallon or more so when it starts flashing 'out of fuel" you should get close to 40 miles

So let me get this straight - the "mile over" will go down to zero after some riding, then it will just have a range of however many miles til empty (about 200 miles)? If they did this, why didn't they just add the "mile over" mileage to the top range and make the range say like 300 or something?

Thanks everyone for the welcomes!

The "over" bit is normally there just after you've filled the tank.
I guess the computer has some problems calculating the exact range. After a while the "over" will dissapear and you get a more accurate range.

i don't think you have that much left... when u go to E i think you have a gallon, but once mine starts flashing i think i only have 1/2 gallon. reason i think this is once flashing i normally stop soon and it takes 4.7-4.8 gallons and with being 5.0 tank. i think you have much after the flash. once she hits E give her some petro.... ever have a female telling you she need something and you don't give it after your all excited she will leave you on the sideline of the road wishing you had just filled her up...

Everything I have read says it is a 5.8 gallon tank. I filled mine yesterday and it said 40 miles left - took about 4.8 gallons. It was on E, but not flashing - so I must of had about a gallon left.
