Power Commander for '06-'07
Hey guys,
I'm looking at used ZX14's ('06 and '07) and was told by a dealer that the low end retardation could easily be cured by a power commander. Is it that simple? Will the addition of slip-ons and a K&N help also or have no effect? Appreciate your feedback.

I have seen and am thinking about getting this thing they make it is called a timing retarder. It just plugs in to the one cord that is under your seat and all it does is it tells your bike that it is always in 6th gear so the throttle responds like it is in 6th gear. Below is a website to it:

I'm running a TFI injection module with my Two Bros slip-ons and the flies out mod on my 06 and can tell you that this thing is a beast compared to a stock bike.

To my knowledge a power commander isn't going to change the timing without the Dynojet ignition module add on. I don't care for the TRE (timing redard eliminator) because the display always reading sixth gear. But put a power commander on and get rid of the flies and it is bliss...pure scare the turds out of you bliss. There are some guys on here that know quite a bit and could maybe shed more light on it for you tho.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have heard of Ivan's TRE used on earlier Busa's, after they restricted the '01 and up models. Didn't occur to me that it could be effective on the ZX's. I could probably live with the 6th gear readout and for $60, it's worth a try.

moller is right just do a thread search on the PCIII or PowerCommander and you should get all the info you can stand. In short though if you install the Power commander and exhaust and filter and pull the flies I would have it proffesionally mapped and you will be very happy the TRE basically removes the top speed limiter by fooling the computer. Good luck if you do a search and dont get your answers feel free to PM me or ask again someone here should surely be able to help.

Hey bomber I didn't think the TRE removed the speed limiter and you had to use a speedo healer?

I thought those only removed the limiter on a zuki. Maybe I'm crazy tho.

Go with the GI PRO gear indicator with a built in timing retard eliminator.. [run it on the program #3] it will advance the timing in the first four gears and It has its own gear indicator.. Also when you go into neutral it goes back to the stock setting (no advance so the bike runs cooler at idle) it will not take away the top speed limit in the ECM.. Try it you will like it. <Speedy><

I think the GI PRO will fit the bill for me. Thanks again for all the info. Hard to think about riding today- 23 degrees in Denver with light snow. Ouch!

I got rid of the low end "Lag," by pulling the secondary butterflies & installing a PCIII that was mapped for a stock '07 w/ flies out. After you do that, your down low lag will be gone. If you add a race air filter, exhaust, & program that PCIII you will notice even less low end lag & more "Right Now,"power. The difference is noticeable by the seat of your pants even w/o the filter & exhaust mods. I thought the TREs were for upper end.

I got rid of the lag with pullin' the flies and a power commander as well as a filter too. It is night and day! Not as much on the newer ones I've read. From what I understand tho the ignition is still running retarded on the bottom as a safety feature and a TRE will in fact correct this. Could be wrong tho I reckon.
