New problem....

Has anyone had the problem of draging the right and left lower fairings when riding agressively.... I was on my favorite road sunday and went in to a long sweeper a little hot... Not the oh shit kinda Hot but i knew i was going to have to make an effort to stay in my lane... Made inital contact with the knee no problem.... Bike felt great and very stable.. kept leaning.... next thing i know the right peg in pushing up and i hear the sound of plastic hitting a belt sander.... thought it was my toe slider or some puck noise.... when i got stopped at the littel store at the top of the mountian i realized i had been draging the right front fairing, peg, knee puck, and toe slider..... looking back on it i think i need to clean out my pants.....

Is your bike lowered in the front? I ask because that might be part of the problem. I had my fairings rubbing a couple times but I found that the center push pin that connects the fairings under the manifolds was not holding because the right side faring had lost the bolt farthest to the front and lowest to the bottom. The wind was causing the fairings to bow out at high speeds. Replaced the bolt and used a little loctite solved the problem. Make sure you have all your fairing bolts in place. One missing can cause the problem you are experiencing.

checked all bolts and the push pin... everything was in tact.. nothing lowered.. just think i was that close to busting my ass... in all th bikes i have owned i have never drug a fairing with out going down.... after looking at the peg and the rear tire i was over far enough to touch the plastic just couldn't believe it because nothing was squirtly about it.. the bike was stuck to the pavement....

I've never heard of that problem but, dude, that is a good badge of honor if you ask me. I'm pretty crazy about keeping my bike in perfect condition but if I ever scraped fairing in a turn without losing it, I would't fix it.

Well, if all is well... all is well brother. I have to tell you that the day mine rubbed, that wasn't my intention and the whole time, I was looking forward to the end of that curve. Had to pull over and make sure I was still among the living. But, I agree with you that she was as steady as when she's on the kickstand. Since then, I've had more confidence on the twisties but hadn't been that low again. And I didn't fix the scratch on my fairing. I'm keeping that slight imperfection intact for all time. When people ask how it got there, I can tell the story again. The good news is I had witnesses. Not like hitting a whole in one on a golf course when you're all by yourself.

I have read about a few people dragging their lower fairings while cornering. I've never made it over that far but if I do you can be damn sure I will display those scratches with pride.

I hear you on that one. I was with eight other riders when one of my buddies on an R1 broke off from the pack on a back road in his home town. I was following pretty close when he just disappeared from in front of me. I knew it was going to be deep. But we had been in a zone all day. I run a 200 on my rear tire and used all of it. That's why I am so supportive of Shinko tires. They have proved it to me time and again. And to top it off, I rubbed the right side fairing. I usually don't get that low in right-hand curves. But necessity is the mother if invention, as they say. As you can probably tell, I'm pretty excited about that day. I feel like I have taken over this thread.
