Hands going numb

Hello all!

I just purchased my 2007 ZX14. Super sweet deal! Drove it off the lot with only .5 miles on it. I love it!

I have a question for anyone willing to help. I have been away from riding a while and I have noticed that my hands start to tingle when I am riding. Should I have the bike check for vibrations or am I putting too much weight on my hands?

Here a shot of the bike in my garage...

I wouldn't worry about the bike. Its your posture or something like that most likely. Try to keep a little more weight off your arms. I was having a major issue with my hands going numb and it went away when I changed gloves.

exactly ^ once you get comfortable with riding again, you'll loosen up and loosen your grip too. when i first started riding my hand would go numb after 30 min or so. now i barely grip the bars unless i'm braking. you can also get foam grips from cycle gear for $10 and/or heavier bar ends. i recommend both of these and heli bar risers as well congrats on the new bike

Thanks for the responses! I'm glad it's not something wrong with the bike. I will work on not resting my weight so much on the handlebars. I think I'll get some foam handgrips to help as well.

First thing is make sure you don't lock your elbows while riding. You will put too much weight on your hands. Get your stomach muscles back inshape and use them to hold yourself up... not your arms/hands.

Also remember to gently flex your fingers every once in a while. And do it before your fingers get numb too, don't wait until it is too late.

Also depending on what kind of gloves your wearing (assuming your wearing gloves) make sure they are not overly tight causing poor circulation. Congrats. Enjoy your new ride.
