Unhappy ZX14 Dying

Good Morning all,

I have a new 07 I just bought Saturday and the other day I was riding and took off and shifting from I think 1-2 it died? Ran the next day no problem. Now last night when I got home I took her out and it did it several times while shifting? I am taking her back to the dealer this am and let them know, but just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem. I am thinking the idel is set to low or at least hoping that is the problem. Thanks ahead of time for viewing and posting anything you might know about this.

You are quite correct regarding the idle speed. If the idle speed is less than 900 rpm, the 14 will just shut down. The specs call for the idle to be between 1050 and 1150 rpm. It is very easy to adjust...look in your owner's manual for a description of the task. I have my 14 set for just under 1000 rpm...a little lower to ease the "klunk" when shifting into first gear from neutral at a stop. Start your bike and let it warm up normally...when it idles down, then adjust the idle with the idle screw as indicated in your manual, BUT be aware that if your idle is too low...the motor will shut down and you will have to adjust the idle with the engine NOT running. Let us know what you find. Rock

Mine idles right around 1500 and I've never had that problem. I guess from what Rock said, mine might be idling a little high, but I like being able to let out the clutch w/out giving it gas and rolling no problem. If it's not your idle speed, my next suggestion would be possibly a problem with your kickstand switch that kills that bike if you put it in gear with the kickstand down. Not sayin you're riding with the kickstand down, but the switch or button or whatever it is might be having an issue. Also, definitely let your bike warm up for a min or so. What I do is pull it out of the garage and fire it up and then throw all my gear on while I wait for it to idle down or up I guess I should say....it's funny mine idles low from the start and then eventually gets up to the aforementioned 14-1500RPM where it stays.
