My $.02 is to use regular motorcycle oil at the 600 mile initial svc until 2k at which point I will switch to a semi syn motorcycle oil. Then at the 4k service I will go with a full syn motorcycle oil. It is important to use motorcycle oil b/c they don't have the detergents, energy conserving additives, and things car oil does. I've been told that with the wet clutches in our bikes, car oil is not conducive to the life of them due to wear and slip cause by things put in car oil. If you do a search there are several threads debating this, but why not use what the mfgr recommends, they did the research for you so why change it. I would recommend a fully syn motorcycle oil eventually though as I've read it gives an unnoticeable boost in performance and most importantly help our beasts to run cooler. Anyway, again, this is just my $.02.
