weird idle

i have a 2000 zx12 and the idle flucuates from about 1000 to 1700 all the time the bike has a full muzzy ex. bmc air filters, no power commander even with the power commander it did the same thing just got alot worse gas mileage i even tried the tps adjust ment and no help

hey that idle is known to many of us , never had that strange idle until i put a muzzy on it . it has to do with the bike being able to breathe more , have your bike tuned by a great tuner and you see a very stable and steady idle nearly or just as a stock

did you do the reed block of plates by chance? i have the fluctuation problem after i did the plates, re-installed the kleen air, now its mint

I have the same exact setup on my 2001 12r and this idle problem is because of the Muzzy exhaust. The Muzzy doesn't have any back pressure causing the idle fluctuation. Some guys have done a pilot jet mod, you can search the zx12 forums to find out how to do it, and this mod has helped some. I bumped my idle up to about 1200 to 1300 rpms at idle and it smoothed it out some. If you put your power commander back in I can send you my map. I'm getting anywhere from 36 to 42 mpg with this map.
