kawi got it right with the 12

you know i've comparing my 00 12 to a lot of other bikes lately and even though it's 9 years old it does'nt feel dated.I had my 05 gixxer 1k and an 05 and 06 zx10,an 03,08 and 09 r1 out and none of then are as comfortable and stable. And if anybody says a stock 1000 will out accelerate a 12 i say they are full of crap.I had out an 05 busa, not even close.I even had out an 06and 07 14. the bikes are pretty close.the 07 does'nt pull as hard but the 06 was really close.About the only thing the 14 does alot better is have a smoother engine.

I did a top gear roll on with my 05 gixxer against an 08 zx10 from 100mph and pulled away and there is no way the gixxer would pull the 12

My ZX-12R out accelerates my Tl1000R and CBR900... but that is a given.... Love the ZX. I just think my TLR is better in the curves by far.

I noticed you didn't say anything about handling. The Busa had the Kawi beat in this area. And current literbikes will run circles around the 12R in the tight twisties. And stop much better. I still wonder what the top speed was for the 2000 model 12R.

i wonder how a 190/55 rear on the 12R would improve the handling?

Yea on a race track or a tight twisty road a liter bike will be faster, they weigh almost 100lbs less. But take roads like we roads like we have here in eastern canada with bumps all over the place that extra weight comes in handy to keep you from bouncing all around like you do on a liter bike. After driving a busa i don't agree with you that it out handles a 12.

I've ridden a load of Busa's, i used to work in a shop that tuned them and the 12 is better handling, not by a long way but definitely better in my opinion.

As for the power there's not a lot to choose between standard bikes at all, both are way too fast for 99% of the people that ride them ( i include myself in that!)

As for the current litre bikes, well they're damn fast, handle well (prob better than the 12 most of the time) but i still love my 12 and have no intention of changin it. The main reason is the litre bikes are way too small - I'm 6'2" and 225lbs and they're like a 400 to sit on.

Just my opinion!

This is the first time you've ever said something that really surprised me, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say the 'busa would out handle anything but a monkey on a skateboard anywhere but a straight line. Most of the folks in the ZX14 board who switched to them from 'busas seem ecstatic at their newfound ability to actually do a little corner carving on a hypersport for a change.

Well, I've never ridden a 12. my comments were based on a few things. Ever heard of the fast bikes boys? They did an extensive road test comparing the 12R and Busa. It was in the year 2000 or 1. There are a few hour long videos of the test. The comparison road test took weeks and went through several European countries. The test involved several thousand miles and all kinds of roads. The blackbird was included in the beginning, but the other 2 bikes just destroyed the Honda. It got dropped everywhere. These 2 remaining very experienced riders swapped bikes a lot. Whoever was on the Busa always had higher corner speed in the tighter twisties and the Kawi got dropped. The busa would just transition better. As far as power went, the busa always pulled out a small lead in the beginning. The kawi would ALWAYS catch the Busa and reel it in on top and pass. Bye bye Busa. I think on the high speed sweepers they were equal. The Kawi brakes were better.

I seem to remember the magazine articles tests at the time comparing the bikes seem to confirm this several thousand mile real world test. i remember comments that that the Kawi had a problem with the front end and just couldn't handle as well as it could or should. Also, this comparison was based on completely stock bikes with no mods whatsoever. you guys know I am a die hard Kawi fan. I just call it like I believe to be true. My opinion is just that....my opinion.

Here's a link to one of the old videos

I found a comparison page between the Busa and the 12 with some interesting results - have a look below.

ZX-12R Ninja vs GSX-1300R Hayabusa

Magazine Tests

These are some of the magazine tests pitting these two giants of the sportbike world. Both the Kawasaki ZX-12R Ninja and the Suzuki GSX-1300R Hayabusa are incredible machines on par with each other for the most part as the Kings of Speed. Of course, magazine tests are often inconsistant with each other, but this isn't about which bike is better,faster,quicker... it's about overall comparisons and the opinions of the test riders who piloted them. Either way, you can't go wrong with either of these machines.

Hayabusa vs ZX-12R TEST VIDEO!! (52MB)
(Right Click and "Save Target As")

Probably the most exciting test I've seen done, these test riders take both the Kawasaki ZX-12R and the Suzuki Hayabusa to their limits in a head to head top speed race, 1/4 mile drag, and around a road race circuit!! Both riders swap bikes and compare results! Definately a MUST SEE video for any fan of either of these great bikes.

my two cents worth

tell yah what I'll du :

I challenge ANY stock X9, X10, X11, X12 OR ZX14 in Southern California, to "roll-on", or, "off the line, wot, 1st gear to oblivion" tests, with my GIXXER 1000, @ the appropriate agreed upon place, during an appropriate time. X6's and X7's . . . .you can stand by and film the shit.

PM my ass, so we can co-ordinate this, and settle this . . . . at least, temporarily .

*Oh btw- for you new booties(you know who you are): wot= wide open throttle

___Yeah. I hear yah JBearSVT. Problem is: while you were dissin' Americans, you forgot to add, "Fuckin' Fat Asses", right? BTW JBearSVT . . . .what country are YOU from? Anyway Jess. . . .thanks for [your] "High Def" clarification of "AMERICANS"

Wow, nice list Andy. I had no idea the ZX12 was that fast. Kind of makes me wonder why Kawi bothered with a ZX14, what performance it would have gained in cubes it appears to have given up in the extra pork.

Andy you have it right here, we are all getting bigger and the bikes are getting smaller its not about speed or power its about suiting the bike you ride, how many Harley riders are over weight :) do they ride them because they cant ride sports bikes ! I recently looked around for a bike that would make me feel right and comfortable, the fact that zx12r has got the power and I feel like the king of the road is a bonus

Dangly once a zzr1200 rider boring !

I had a 2000 ZX12R and loved it. I sold it and then realized I should have kept it. Was very clean and I missed every time I walked into my garage. I shopped to find another one and ended up buying an 02 zx12R. I am happy with although it was certainly not as clean but I am working with it. I am hooked on the ZX12R. I originally had a 1994 ZX9, sold it 2006 and was looking buy another ZX9 when I came across the 12. The ZX12 is an awesome bike.

Jk, you need to post up some bigger pics of your 12 here somewhere.
That thing looks pretty badass in the little swatch in your profile!
