Question Plz help i just got a 2000 zx-12r and im a little confused.

I know that my 2000 kawasaki zx-12r is fuel injected but why is there a choke like lever on the left handle bar. I usally have to adjust this when starting it first and then turn it down just like a choke but its fuel injected so im confused please can somebody explain what this is,does ect ect. I thought there was no choke with fuel injection but it seems like it idles better until its warm if i pull this lever back... Thanks and sorry for the dumb question. I will post pictures of my new bike when i figure out how lol.

OK so what is it though? Choke? i didnt get an owners manual with my bike. Love the bike its a 2000 and only had 1800 miles so i think i got a great deal. Cant wait till i get used to the bigger bike. My other bike is a 2003 fz1 so im used to the power just not the size and weight of the bike.

It's a not "choke" as it would have been on an older carbed engine, it's basically a fast idle control. The ECU takes care of adjusting the mixture while the lever just raises the revs slightly to make it run easier while the engine is still cold.

Basically its an enrichener. A carbed bike restricts air intact to enrichen the mixture. A FI bike does the same thing by just injecting more fuel.

on fi bikes the fast idle lever does nothing more but open the throttle more. if you follow the cable you will see all it does is raise the idle speed by opening the throttle a little.

It's a fast idle control. It is used like a choke to help warm the engine up. Diesel pick up trucks have it but it's automatic on them.
