2000 zx12r my first ride

New to the site. Think its great. I just bought my first bike after years of riding my friends bikes. Got the one I always wanted. I think I might have bought a little too much bike but I love it and hope to get used to the power.
Today when I went to start it I put the fast idle lever down and I think it came unhooked or snaped. Is this a hard fix or should I take it to a shop? The bike started fine but I dont have high idle. Still put 200 miles on this afternoon and love it more every mile I put on it. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. Couldn't tell you for sure about the choke without knowing what is broken but unless you're really NOT mechanically inclined, it should be easy to fix.

I took the high idle apart and the cable snaped in the middle. Ordered a new one. I took the corbin seat off and I like it a lot more now. I feel like Im part of the bike not just sitting on it. Man you gotta be careful when passing on the highway. You end up passing a line of cars instead of just one. Well I think if you have to have a problem , too much power is the problem to have. I love this bike.

If you don't like the Corbin seat, there are lots of guys that would be willing to buy it from you. I put one on my 12 last year and instantly loved it! Anyway, have fun with the new toy.

This bike has me thinking I may have bitten off a little more than I can chew. I need to find a way to take some of the abruptsness out of the throtle if I can. Does putting a power commander on the bike smooth it out. If not I will be selling the bike before I get myself hurt. Thanks for the help. Im not sure if Ill be selling the seat or putting it back on or selling the whole thing.

There's a company (forget the name) that makes throttles with changeable cable cams (most guys want it quicker) that may be able to supply you with a throttle with a smaller than stock cable cam, which would slow response a bit.

I ride a 2001 ZX12. I can tell you from experience that the abruptness and choppiness of the throttle is just something that you have to get used to. I also have a pcIII, full exhaust and custom tune. Throttle is still touchy but on the good side it makes 165HP on the dyno. I find the problem to mainly be when I ride the bike at too low rpms. If I try to ride easy under 3500 its very choppy and abrupt. I've found that you have to ride it smooth and give it throttle when this happens. For instance, off a stop light/sign I roll into the throttle and quickly get it over 3000 preferably over 3500 then while riding I keep it at 3500 minimum. I try to remember that its a powerful and fast bike, not made to be loafing around town in high gear at 2000 rpm. When it starts getting jerky, your loafing it, and need to give it some more throttle. Keep these things in mind and have fun.

Kawi T I have taken your advice and the bike is much better to ride I was riding the bike on the back roads in 4th at around 2000 rpm and rolling on it out of the corners and when it would get to about 3500 it would start to pull hard and fast and I would have to get off it now Im in 2nd or 3rd tops for my back road riding and keep to revs at 3500 to 4000 and much better to ride it shifts much better and man is this thing fast. After a 100 miles of back road riding I have to pull over and let my heart slow down. What a bike!
