ZX12r Performance Issues

Hi,

My ZX12R went under water due to the recent flood happened in my state in India two months back. After that we drained the water withing three days and then changed oil, oil filter, new batteries, air filter, spark plug. The bike has no issues starting. But when try to open the throttle, the bike feels like not enough fuel is going in and stalling after 5000 RPM and not going beyond it in all gears. Checked the fuel pump, injectors. Everything seems to be fine.

Im running mad since my mechanic is also confused on fixing it. Kindly give me suggestion as to what could be the problem?

Thanks.

Inspect and test ignition igniter and ECU. Electronic components do not hold up well in the presence of water.

hi,

I have replaced stock ECU from another vehicle and no improvement. What do you mean by ignition ignitor?

Check the grounds for corrosion. Also what is the input voltage to your coils. Pull the ignition cover and clean the pickup. Put a fuel gauge inline and check across RPM range. Pull the petcock on the tank and check for debris and the filter is clean.

I would bet a dollar to a donut that it's the fuel pump. The pump will seem to operate normally, but will only pump to a certain point then starve the engine fuel. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail, connect a good length fuel line running into a catch container, turn on the key and let the fuel pump prime. Measure the amount of fuel that comes out. If you have a manual there is a spec that tells you how much fuel should be pumped while the pump is priming. Don't quote me, but I wanna say it's 180ml. If it's anything under the spec value the pump is shot & gonna get worse. Fuel pump is a common problem on some of these 12r's.

I will look up the spec & post it later.
