Cardinal Sin

Two days ago I let the fuel get too low and about a quarter to half mile from the gas station bike started to buck and cut out a few times. I was able to get it up a pretty steep quarter mile grade and coast it to the station. Now I've got a FI light every once in awhile and the dreaded power dip for a second or two between 3200 and 4000 rpm. Where should I start? All advice appreciated.

Stock pump? Fuel pressure might be going away. If that's the case, it's either the pump or the regulator.

Is there a possibility of crap in the tank clogging the pickup? Usually when a bike runs out of gas followed by fueling issues it's because of this.
