My 12 has seriously bad MPG

Ok..this thing has been puzzling me for a while after I bought my 12. I have been paying attention on my mpg lately, and found out 4.1 gallons of gas can only run about 80 miles. My bike runs smooth lately and seems no problem, but what can be the cause of the problem? What's everyone's mpg on their 12? Thanx

My 2000 got less than 25 in combined city when new. I believe the 2000s in California had programming problems and burned a lot of gas just to keep the catalyst hot. I've tweaked with a PM and ignition a got a little better, up to about 30 and then moved into the foothills at about 2500 where I now get close to 40, less stopping though. On the highway I could get close to 40 and now it's closer to 45. Mine also has a problem that when taking off, about once in 100 times, it will get to 5 mph and the engine will just lock up with a backfire and die. It almost always is so violent that I'm unable to keep enough arm leverage and do a zero speed tip-over. So I now rev much higher and slip the clutch further until I'm up to about 20. But it points out that the 2000's had some issues with the programming.

I heard the kleen air has alot to do with alot as well on the 12's. I'm doing research on removing mine.
