ZX12 will not go into neutral?

the guy says the bike will go through the gears but will not go into neutral. He's had the cases open and says the gears look fine. What could be the issue? I find this interesting.

Any body out there???

does anyone have a idea of what could be the issue? The bike has been down and is a salvage rebuild. It had this issue when I bought it. However I've had it through all of the gears and have road it for more then 200 miles HWY and in town. But no neutral the neutral light will show but it's still in gear.

Sidenote
: my last bike was a 86 GSXR 1100 bored with over sized pistons etc... and it cannot touch this ZX12! I mean this thing is crazy! and smooth! I'm glad I got it!

Clutch drag is the number one cause of not finding neutral. Worn or misadjusted shift forks could make finding it harder. The 12 should have a neutral finder, small ball bearings between one gear and the shaft that prevents it from going into second when stopped. Just lifting the lever until pressure is felt should find neutral. Kawi must use fewer balls than earlier machines because I find it usually doesn't work when I first stop. If I roll the bike back a few feet, it will then work. My ZX9 was the same while my 89 ZX10 was bullet proof, Neutral finder worked every time.

Has the clutch been replaced. I had the same problem with mine after doing the clutch, until i realized i put the clutch hat plat(the cover where the six spring's go) on in the wrong position.

Thanks for the reply!

I just got the bike as a salvage. It was like that when I got it. the previous owner did not have a lot of info about everything that has been done to the bike.

I'm discovering things all of the time. the bike has as Dyno jet power command unit on it. The sad thing is I'm very green when it comes to bike mechanic work. So I'm learning more and more I used to ride a Gixxer 1100 1986. So I'm lost when it comes to the Ram air/fuel injection etc.... I'm learning more and more as I read.
