New guy from South Africa with a pic or 2. Not realy 56k friendly

Hi all from South Africa, Cape Town.
Just got my hands on a 93 ZX11 Ninja D1 (Import from the US).
Motor has been rebuilt from the bottom up. The owner has had a mod done on the number 3 (which I've seen is an issue) Let me know what you think of the mod.

He was the first owner and this bike looks like its just rolled off the showroom floor. I also got a complete spare engine, except for number 3 being stuffed.

This is how he said the mod was done:
the mod is simple, and was done by a kawasaki shop in JHB, they were fundi's on the ZZR motor and oil feeds

holes are drilled to let oil drain quickly back to the case
the other end of the #3 feed is restricted with a washer welded on
take out the little black plastic oil pickup from the case, otherwise the increased pressure will pop the countershaft seal.

And these are the pics that he sent gave me concerning the crank shaft journal clearances - comments will be greatly appreciated!

This is the ad as posted:
Kawasaki ZX-11 D1, US version of the ZZR-1100 D1 (1993), candy apple red, 56000 miles. Big, fast, comfortable good-looking bike ideal for single or pillion riding. Set up for fast touring - race-tech gold valve shock, race-tech fork cartridge emulators, corbin seat, double bubble windscreen, givi luggage racks, vance & hines 4-1 pipe with CRP end can, jetted, k&n air filter, scott chain oiler, motor recently overhauled - new big-end bearings and valve guides, the rest of the motor was perfectly within spec, oil bypass mod for #3 conrod design issue makes this motor bulletproof. Plus complete spare motor with just the crank unusable, top end and gearbox perfect. New stock seat and windscreen included. Parts manual, Haynes manual and Kawasaki factory manual included.

What should I keep an eye out for on this bike? Any special advice??

Me either, beyond that #3 issue which looks to have been taken care of nicely. I'm sure some eleven owners will be along short(ish)ly. Good looking bike, welcome to the forums!

Wow, looks like quite the beauty. I think the only thing you may have to watch out for is gazelle or whatever it is that would jump out onto the road in front of you! Looks like the previous owner took great care of things. Have to admit, I'm partial to that bike. Have the same one, same color, Givi racks, etc. etc. no Corbin seat though. Your body work is in much nicer shape than mine. Good find.

You refer to the guys in the Johannesburg shop as fundi's, you'll have to translate that one for us in the States. Or at least for me as that's a new one.

You were asking for comment on the plastigauge measurements for the crank bearings. How much the rod flattens indicates how much clearance is between the parts. Spec is 0.020 to 0.044mm (or is that 0,020~0,044mm ) and the plastigauge is squished all the way to the 0.050mm width, so I'd say they look OK.. maybe a little loose, but the service limit is 0.08mm so they should be fine. See section 8-13 of your shop manual.

As for special advice-ENJOY! Looks like you have a great bike. I think the next upgrade I would add would be calipers and rotors with braided steel lines. There are a few threads on here about that, so you should be able to find the info you'd need.

Fundi = specialist.... there is a shop in Johannesburg that specialises in older bikes, specifically Kawasaki's...

As for the braided lines, they are already on the bike... do need to bleed them though, they are slightly squishy.

When I first saw the pics of the drilling, I was a bit worried, thought it might have been a hack job. It has, however, lasted the 13 years like that, so obviously it was a good thing!

Just installed a MR.Turbo bypass oil pan on mine (among other things). They acomplish the same thing in a little different fashion. I should take a good picture just of it, but here's the only one I have right now.

Will be posting more pics of my bike in a few weeks when I have it all done and have some road time on it to make sure I'm happy with the results.

Looks odd to me...

Not seen that before, although there is one recognised mod which is to the oil pan. As for the #3 issue... this is largely an ill-reported myth – many big bore Ks are oil sensitive and its suggested you fill to at least the 3/4 point in the sight-glass. I can only think abused bikes ever fail here. Also, why would you want to restrict oil flow to #3 if that's the end that's reputed to go?
