ZX11 Top Speed Video / pictures
Took the ZX11 way out of town today and found a nice place to run all out .
However i didn't quiet top out , missed 5th gear lost some room and pulled top gear to 190 mph indicated . Using a Sigma BC906 computer went 100.03 miles compared to stock trip meter @ 104.7 miles . Sucks because the BC906 quits @ 136.something MPH . so the Stock Spedo is about 4% off after adjustment , going back in this weekend to make a final tweak on it .
Going to stick a GPS on soon . Any way @ 190 indicated - 4.7 % = 8.93 mph off the 190 speed so that puts me @ 181.07 today in a no head wind heading from east to west blocked by trees . 10,100 rpms in 6th gear
using 17/42 gearing . Not stock gearing of 17/45 . I think 17/43 or 44 might be the best till i add 10 to 15 more hp to pull 6th to red line . 11,500 rpms .
She was still pulling slowly but i only had less than a mile left to a T intersection so i didn't want to push stopping last second @ 180 plus .
Here is video sorry its sideways but i had the tank bag holding the video .
This old 11 pulls hard for a NA motor with hwy gearing , I think she can hold her own with some newer machines especially with a 1109 kit

My left leg is 1.5" shorter than my right . My shifter is low with a piece of 5/8" heater hose on it since i have limited ankle movment . if i ride a friends bike i have to pick my entire leg up to shift the bike .
So sometimes i miss a shift from not quiet enough strength in that shift foot , but i still ride and drag race .

I got two comments..1. what in the hell is that red tag flapping around on ur key? it looks like one of them "remove before flight tags on a f-18, and how do u deal with it falapping like that? 2.. u may be able to squeeze another mph or two if u let that bike warm up a lil bit and get that oil thinned out. just my $.02. good vid. tho and nice bike too

That is a remove before flight tag and it dosent bother me or start to move till 100 plus . Oil wont get any warmer on a 90 degree day after riding 100 miles to that remote location .
Tom cruise your killing me lol :)
Made that same run on the way back but not from a standing stop and didnt miss 5th . was @ 90 mph at the point were i started in the video and pulled 10,900 in 6th about all she had but was showing over 200 on the clock so a true speed of 190 - the 4.7 % off of the stock gauges .
Best bang for the buck on the old 11 is dump the heavy ass wheels .

Im set kindd of stiff but i do alot of two up riding so i keep it on the two up setting . All the rest of my bike are 3 to 4" shorter than the 11 . I have pulled one wheelie with no lower fairings off throtle 17/45 not 17/42 like i am now . but it was maybe 4 to 6" and thats it . you can see from my video im not lacking power @ all .

Because #3 has oil starvation issues, wheelies are said to sieze #3.

No, not at all. Actually it will wheelie all on it's own when it hits the power at about 6000 RPM if I hold it wide open in 1st from down low right off idle. The front end also comes off the ground on it's own slightly in second.

Basically what I was trying to say was if I start out in first gear at about 2 MPH off idle (1,000 RPM) and then go WOT the bike starts to pull hard and then when it hits about 6,000 RPM the front wheel will come up (high) on it's own and will keep it up until I hit the limiter at about 12,000 RPM. I put my weight on the tank to keep it from flipping over.
If I snap the throttle (no clutching) in 1st at about 4500 RPM and up I can easily pull a verticle power wheelie. I can also pull a wheelie in second by snapping the throttle (no clutching), but it is not as easy to do.

Can't wait to get home now and see your vid... Shh don't tell anyone I'm screwing off again at work.
One small note, you might be a bit dissapointed when you get a GPS put on. Speedo error is more likely 7-10%, less than 5% is pretty optimistic. Remember, the odometer is run by gearing off the cable, but the way a speedometer works is friction plates and a spring so it may not be off by the same amount as the odometer.
When you put a GPS on and are able to confirm one way or the other please let us know! Speedo to GPS on mine is 10%, but maybe it is just a really bad one. I never compared odometer performance.
Note: re-read your post and note you are tweaking the speedometer, so disregard the above if you've already improved your accuracy. Post a How-to on that one!
Also, I've installed a Factory Pro shift detent kit. Basically a stiffer spring and ball bearing shift detent roller. This makes shifting snappier, I think it works pretty well and it seems that when you start a shift it snaps into the next gear in a more positive fashion. I don't remember from your list of upgrades on the other posts if you have this. It does make the lever a little stiffer, so I'm not sure if it would help with your ankle/leg situation, but I thought I should mention it.

Thank you . I was also using a gearing chart . 17/42 with a 170/60/17 tire comes out to 179.5 @ 10,100 rpms but i believe i had a 3 to 5 mph tail wind .
Later that day i pulled 10,900 in top gear same stretch of road but didn't tape or miss 5th gear . that was all she had and was showing a tic over 200 .
I also run a pilot power front tire and with its peaky profile is .5 " taller than many other tires new and take me from the normal tire of 1820 mm to 1829 mm in circumference so that changes the speedo some and i also tweeked the needle back 5 mph going to tweek it a bit more next time i have the fairing off
